Dave Chappelle gets no Royalties from

From his hit TV show The Chappelle show

Comedian Dave Chappelle requested that Netflix remove Comedy Central's Chappelle's Show over not being paid after ViacomCBS licensed the series.

According to Deadline, Netflix responded by removing Chappelle's Show. Chappelle made the announcement in a video on his Instagram account titled "Unforgiven.

"People think I made a lot of money from Chappelle's Show," Chappelle said in the Instagram video recorded during a standup set. "When I left that show I never got paid. They (ViacomCBS) didn't have to pay me because I signed the contract. But is that right? I found out that these people were streaming my work and they never had to ask me or they never have to tell me. Perfectly legal 'cause I signed the contract. But is that right? I didn't think so either. That's why I like working for Netflix. I like working for Netflix because when all those bad things happened to me, that company didn't even exist. And when I found out they were streaming Chappelle's Show, I was furious. How could they not -- how could they not know? So you know what I did? I called them and I told them that this makes me feel bad. And you want to know what they did? They agreed that they would take it off their platform just so I could feel better. That's why I fuck with Netflix. Because they paid me my money, they do what they say they're going to do, and they went above and beyond what you could expect from a businessman. They did something just because they thought that I might think that they were wrong. And I do -- I think that if you are fucking streaming that show you're fencing stolen goods.

While I agree that it's not right that Dave doesn't get paid for the streaming him saying "I told them it makes me feel bad so they did what I asked" is fucking hilarious given the content of his last few specials, excluding the one about George Floyd this summer. It's basically been a big fuck you to people complaining about his jokes making them feel bad...

Dave's my guy and morally he is right, but business is business and as he admitted himself he signed the contract. He's lucky Netflix value him as they do

Exactly. I wonder if netflix pays the creator or the estate of the creator everytime they buy a show under similar circumstances. Or are they doing this just because its Dave Chappelle.

Agreed with everything dave said until the boycott part. I'll never get why ultra rich, ultra talented people feel the right to tell people what to do with their money.

That shit hbo said to dave really hurt his soul. Homie never gone forget that.

Thats them Hollywood decision makers. I'd assume most of those ppl are assholes, cuz they hold so much power. They can make or break ppls careers.

Its wild tho that HBO passed on breaking bad and chapplle show.

I dunno, man. I can't see how Netflix is supposed to know that Dave wasn't paid a licensing fee, etc, etc.

They went to the owner of the content and did a deal.

If that's the case, they don't really owe him shit.

Exactly.

If Chapelle doesn't own the content, he's not entitled to any royalties.

what HBO say?

One thing I thought about was, when Dave left CC, a few black men came and tried to take his seat.

Not only did Key and Peele have their show at CC for years, but Fox tried it with Affion Crockett to much much less success.

I remember when Dave came back and was like "Key and Peele stole my show".

He didnt ask you to boycott anything but his show (the one he created but is no longer getting paid for)

Your money already spent on the streaming platform so he's not trying to tell you what to do with it

If you think he should be paid, dont watch it

Morally he’s right

but he knew exactly what was happening when he signed the contract.

Now he is in a place to make bigger moves.

It is what it is

I dont think anyone knew streaming would be what it is now, back then. At least that what I took from what he said, that he's not getting paid from the show streaming. How could that be in the contract all the way back then?

That legit means nothing. Not a damn thing Lololololol.

I don’t think he get paid for anything regarding the show

Chappelle was paid for his time on the show. CC can show the reruns on their channel all they want. His issue now is they're selling the rights to streaming services and he not seeing any of that money. So you quoting what I said and saying it means nothing is 100% wrong.

His other issue was that if he wanted to do another show he can't even us his own name cause CC owns that too, not that's wild to think he can't use his on name for another tv show.

Does he get paid for the show being on TV?

I’m under the impression he don’t get any money from Viacom regardless of how it’s show either through reruns or streaming
