I don't mind having an ambiguously brown actress playing Cleopatra (better this than Lady Gaga, yikes) , but they better would not following the checkmarks of their Hollywood predecessors and admit that Cleopatra's mother was a native Egyptian woman.

Cleopatra's race not even important as far as black shit goes since the majority of the people of Egypt were brown/dark skin and all the important Egyptian shit was there thousands of years before she came along.

With how varied mixed race people look Cleo really cudda looked like anything.

Smaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaash on Gal Gadot

I din't mind if she play Cleopatra.

What I expect about a historical peplum movie is that they respect for once both Cleopatra's cross-ethnic heritage and of Hellenistic Egypt as a whole, instead serving us up the same redundantly outmoded Aryanist propaganda like they did so within every single previous film, telefilm or TV show.

This Laeta Kalogridis is stressing too much about Cleopatra's Grecity and not enough about her cross-ethnic heritage.

You cannot ignore that. Especially her Egyptian-ess.

Cleopatra wasnt full black african

by the time she came along Egypt had been ruled by Greeks

the Ptolemy dynasty was Hellenistic

Exactly.

Her father, king Ptolemy XII Auletes, was of mostly Greek Macedonian heritage with some minor ancestry from all around the Hellenistic Asia and some allegedly from interunions between the Egyptian Memphite priesthood and the Lagid dynasty too.

But Senecus stressed that Cleopatra was of part native Egyptian heritage and shared the same mother than Arsinoe. Modern historians and Hellenists likes to give Cleopatra's maternity to Ptolemy's wife-cousin Cleopatra Trypahaena: yet, she exiled herself out of Egypt during a period lasting from 77BC to to 63BC and haven't seen her husband in the meanwhile.

Cleopatra was born around 69BC and Arsinoe around 68-7 BC, both at Alexandria. They were closer to Ptolemy's native Egyptian courtesan and concubine who was Arsinoe's natural mother and it is known that Cleopatra Tryphanae hated Ptolemy's younger daughters.

Besides, the native Egyptian people and its priesthood were frantic about having either Cleopatra or Arsinoe for pharaoh. N****as were and still are xenophobic AF. They wouldn't have been so ecstatic about an umpteenth Greek Macedonian ruler unless she have this time legitimate pharaonic blood.

And everytime you confront white folks with all of that evidence, they get mad and start ranting and bitching as usual.

Even those shows and epics about Rome are way to whitewashed

the ancient world was a lot more blended

A LOT MORE

Right?

They're taking lily white complexioned Anglo-Saxons and Northwest Europeans to play brown-to-tan skinned Southern Europeans, Anatolians and darker-skinned North Africans evolving in cosmopolitan empires and realms. ??

Starz's "Spartacus" did at least made an effort with the Punic, Egyptian, Alexandrite, Lybian and Gallic castings.

Whom to the latest "Assassin's Creed" sandalpunk spin-offs??? Chapeau. People were mad AF when "Origins" implied that Cleopatra wasn't fully Greek. She almost look like Aya, who's mixed!

Lol at the race not being important cause you niggas wanna fuck.

Lol no one said that bro I said Cleo wasnt dark African and from life experience we all kno' how varied mixed race people are. She might have looked like what we call lightskin today or she might have looked like Quincy Jones daughter from the Office. Or she might have had that Logic look or lighter

As others have said the main issue will be how everyone else is portrayed.

We know her full-blooded sister Arsinoe might had likely looked like this:
