Welcome To aBlackWeb

ABW Album Review Board (Pusha T - Daytona)

I cant stand U from TPAB.

Starts with him screaming on some Yeezus shit. Then hes cry rappin the whole way thru.

Thor they're similar ? Again what was Damn about ? And what was TPAB about ??

Do you guys listen to music or do you skim through it ?

I listen to K. Dot literally EVERYDAY no joke.

only artist on my Tidal that has his own playlist.

IF you dont see the similarity and how DAMN took what he did on TPAB to another level I cant help.

"On my last LP I tried to lift the black" He because does the same and give insight on the black experience with songs like Feel, Fear and Lust.

That's not what I asked you. I asked for you to explain to us what TPAB and Damn were about. Since you listen to Kendrick every day why is it so hard to explain what they're about..... ?

I literally answered that already. Literally

Daytona hard af...I played the shit out that album, had to put it down for a while cause Iā€™ll keep running the same joint back.

Iā€™d love to hear where he shouldā€™ve expanded his content at. Drug references are consistent but it ainā€™t ā€œmolly, molly, I sell this, I whip thatā€

Thought Infared was interestingly the ā€œweakestā€ song on the project. Pusha was in his bars bag from start to finish though.

Lengthwise...sure I wanted more but I was pleased with what was presented and Iā€™d prefer it that way than having to go through 14 songs

A lot of the old records I pick up are super short in comparison to today.

ā€œWhy Anita always talking about love, Songstress wouldā€™ve been classic if she had some club joints. 3/5ā€

Is there a thread for this? Would love somebody to tell me the better songs on Damn than:

Momma
I
Kunta
Hood politics
Alright
How much a dollar cost
Blacker the berry

What movement is Damn inspiring? Iā€™m still making my way back to Damn so Iā€™m not scribing in stone but itā€™ll be a tall tale for Dot to exceed TPAB and from I remember, Damn ainā€™t it

Actually just skimmed through tracklist, Damn is really Good. Maybe with age. TPAB is just....bro heā€™s talking about...the shit heā€™s saying on that album from your biggest rapper in the game(sans drake) with hip hop at its pinnacle

Iā€™m comfortable with any Dot GOAT convos, heā€™s reached the level

Back to Pusha T who showed me who he was on this album. ALBUM OF THE YEAR. Maybe niggas wouldā€™ve had a chance if Ye ainā€™t come through on the boards...but he did....ā€with Ye back choppinā€™, the cars and the women come with options, caviar facials remove the toxinsā€

Album of the year? naw. You killed Drake for "not showing growth" but pusha did the exact same thing and he get album of the year? Must be two sides

You raise a good question that we should make a thread for, what constitutes as a classic album?

For me the album has to check off most of these:

Impactful
Influential
High Quality
Stand Out Single
Represent the time/era it was released

All of the albums we recognize as undisputed classics check off most of those, if not all. From Straight Outta Compton to College Dropout. U mentioned TPAB earlier. We can see how it influenced the game with the albums that followed. After that album dropped, we got 4:44, KOD, shit even Lemonade. It definitely represented the time with all the protesting, etc.

It takes more than just being good to be a classic album, imo.
I made this thread already

This nigga @Goldie

You make a poll for an album and tell niggaz to willingly vote for a rating... Niggaz do

Then you get all critical when niggaz vote for a rating you provided?!?

Daytona was ok. I'm a Pusha T fan and I thought it would be better.

Said it before and I'll say it again. Pusha T shouldn't let Kanye do his whole album again. He should go back to getting shit from Pharell and the Neptunes.

IMO Nispey Hussle Victory Lap was better than Daytona.

aight...my .02 on Daytona

full disclaimer, i had the same reservations and thoughts about him prior to this album. Same redundant raps, content, subject matter, etc...and never really cared for him as a solo artist

i'll say, to me, this is a soundtrack to the dope boy. I compare it to what Jay did with American Gangster in the sense that Pusha was definitely going for a vibe and theme with this project.

The first 20+ secs or so of "IFKYK" set the album off

The production was top notch!! This shouldnt be up for debate, but i know nigs gon nig. Ye definitely was in his bag. Sometimes, less is more. I feel like the production definitely help paint the picture Pusha was trying to create.

This was still a pusha album though. Dope/kingpin references are littered throughout the project, but at this point, you not changing this tigers stripes. If he was going to change/evolve as an artist, as it relates to content, it would've happened by now. I think CTG said it best, this was "adult contemporary trap music"

I mean, if you like Ross, how can you not like this project at least
