Cam Johnson is eligible for a contract extension with the Phoenix Suns and the two sides have been actively engaged in negotiations.
While Robert Sarver is suspended this season, the Suns are
operating as though they have the authority to add money to their payroll for this season and future seasons.
"They are negotiating from what I've been told, with Cam Johnson on a contract extension," said Brian Windhorst.
The Suns successfully signed Mikal Bridges to a four-year, $90 million extension last offseason, but were unable to come to terms with Deandre Ayton. The Suns eventually matched a four-year, $133 million offer sheet Ayton signed with the Indiana Pacers after the partnership apparently became at least somewhat contentious.
If Johnson and the Suns fail to agree to terms, he will become a restricted free agent next offseason.
Johnson has played a key role on the Suns and he could slide into an even bigger one as a small ball 4 if they trade Jae Crowder.
