Players are much more skilled today than they was 25 years ago.

It’s not debatable.

I'm not interested in a debate. I want you to tell me where exactly they exhibit more skill. We can all agree that they are better 3 pt shooters. In what other facets of the game do they exhibit more skill?

I do hate these generational topics, especially with these young nigs...The players today are better ball handlers, the post players/bigs have the ability to shoot away from the basketball more plus a few can handle the ball. And in general, they are just better shooters, and there's more of them. Athleticism as well.....the athlete has evolved.

Ok, I can see bigs being better ball handlers and shooters in general, though I'd argue that doesn't mean they are more skilled. It means they were skilled in different areas. You could probably say that big men back then had better footwork and finishing ability in the post.

If by hall handling you mean dribbling around. I guess that's probably true, but I don't think that's always a good thing. For every impressive feat of ball handling that we see that leads to a score, we see at least one play that leads to a turnover or a bad shot.

I agree with the athleticism point, though I think that might be a little overrated as far as it relates to the game.

Thanks for the straight answer.

Reggie Miller is a worse player than Khris Middleton

At best he’s just as good

So the whole Curry not being able to lead a team in the 90s thing is ludicrous

At the end of the day, regardless of what you think about Reggie's game, he played that game having to face tough defense game in and game out. Curry has not done that, and everything we've seen suggests that his game would suffer if he did.

Again, I'm not saying Curry would be bad in the 90s or wouldn't be a standout player. I'm saying that he wouldn't be what he is today.

You keep wanting to make this apples to oranges comparison between Miller and Middleton. Until Middleton is the #1 on a team the shit don't work.

There's far more players who could adjust their games to the 80s and 90s than vice versa. Centers in the 80s and 90s going out on the perimeter in a pick and roll situation to guard that far away from the basket was not a thing and it's damn near a requirement now that as a big you can at least be mediocre at this skill or else you're a liability

If you take Currys exact skill set and abilities and drop him in 1997 he'd blow people's minds pulling up from 30 ft on a regular and handling the ball the way he does to get shots. More physical play doesn't mean better...mainly because you actually have to be able to stay in front of a player to be physical and that would be very difficult

I get what you're saying, but I don't agree with people that say a traditional center couldn't work in today's game. They'd be a liability in some ways and unstoppable in others. I will admit that your run of the mill centers from the 90s would be useless in today's game, but star centers from the 90s would be a problem in today's league too.

Some would...many wouldn't. There's a reason the Dale Davis types have been phased out. Because the way the game is played today if you can't score consistently or defend you're a liability. The era of just having a big man you can let stand in the paint and clog the middle is gone.
