Wouldn't say they needed help. The elements been around. There's a reason it came together in NYC and not South Carolina, Chicago,or anywhere in the west tho 🤷🏽‍♀️
 
When I saw this topic I thought... when does a Jamaican become an African American?

I mean, West Indians have been immigrating to America in significant numbers since the 1920s, if not before. Look at Colin Powell. He was born in Harlem to Jamaican parents. If someone like him played a pivotal role in early hip hop, should we view him as Jamaican or American? Unless he told you, no one would see him and think 'Jamaican.'

Over time, tons of West Indians assimilated into Black American culture. So when people deny that Jamaicans and other West Indians played a role, do they mean to say that no one who played a role had a West Indian background at all? Or only that no one 'fresh off the plane' played a role?

Everyone got different rules apparently.
Like most Jamaican parents will straight up tell their kid if you're born and raised in America you're a Yankee(African American)
That's what I went by but according to the fba people if your lineage doesn't go back to slavery in the US you aren't African American no matter how much you see yourself as American...🤷🏽‍♀️

Part of my point is that unless people of the second generation (or later) let you know, you wouldn't be able to tell that they have a West Indian background. So to outsiders, as far as they know, you're a FBA and not a West Indian. So West Indians don't get the credit they deserve.

African American is different than FBA.


That’s kinda why he created the term… To differentiate.


All FBA’s are “African American” but not all African Americans are FBA’s.

I do try to hear out everybody B4 I pass judgement tho.

This fba movement started gaining traction when some African Americans thought international niggaz wanted their reparations lol which they haven't even gotten yet and it's gone on since then.

For example He said he was "praying" for black Americans to have our culture stolen

We are tired of being UNDERMINED by the rest of the diaspora so we're delineating from the rest of the diaspora and recognizing foundational black americans/ freedmen/ American descendants of slaves as our own ethnic group

This doesn't shun our Caribbean and African brothers and sisters who are on code, they know what the deal is but we have to close the ranks because we're getting too much animosity from people who look like us. So we have to delineate

This isn't a one-off thing. It's PATTERN

They aint joking nothing. Ever since Trump 2016 the black conscious community has figured out a lot of the undermining and animosity is coming from the black immigrant class.

And yes we have to have a separatist mindset against our haters so to speak. We're looking out for ourselves for the first time in history unapologetically. That includes delineating from niggas in England "praying" for negativity
