brah, come onThe mayor using the city's budget, to clean up blighted property is not having power, having power would be cleaning up all blighted property in the city which they both hasn't done (both mayors in BR and in NO). Just doing a few houses here or there and getting on TV for a media blitz about you spending a day to clean up debris means nothing.
White churches start up summer programs all the time, in fact, white churches and white communities (the gated ones) (black folks don't have communities, we have neighborhoods) are the ones that start up these summer programs, and day-cares, those private schools that you posted in your other thread that get those funds vs the black schools, there's a reason for their funds that they get, they get to start up summer programs for (their kids), the mayor has nothing to do with that. As I stated, mayors have no power, especially black mayors.
Black ppl cannot change the life course for a group of white folks, no matter what position that hold.
we take two steps forward, then 10 back
so, whats a reasonable timeframe to clean up EVERY single dilapidated property in the city? What's a reasonable timeframe to clean up EVERY single piece of blight?
what about the time to organize all the volunteers who do come out? And most importantly, the shit not free...there were no fundraisers to cover costs, so she had to spend money from the city's budget to do so
i feel like you just really want to take every single suggestion and dissect it to come back and say "well what about ....well what about"
If the mayor didnt have ANY power as you are suggesting, why do they exist?
but again, you are trying to combat my examples with rebuttals, but you doing a bad job b/c you keep trying to take what im saying out of context to so that it doesnt fit the narrative YOU want pushed.
Did i say the mayor did all of those things i listed exclusively? Ofc black people can organize in their own communities and get these initiatives done, but a lot of the times, they dont know the who to call's or the process to get stuff approved if you need permits and shit, BUT, if you have a direct line to the mayor's office...oh idk, maybe they can push a lot of that shit through with no issue or make the calls needed to make shit shake
Now, if your position is to completely remove politics from black communities altogether, even at the most basic local level...ok...then what?
