Welcome To aBlackWeb

Issa Rae says Season 3 of ‘Insecure’ will focus on “toxic black male masculinity“…

anyone that subscribes to the idea that "toxic masculinity" is a thing are the people exaggerating the fuck outta shit.
ok

do you deny that behavior doesnt exist or you just take issue with what its being called?

It only exists in their heads. The behaviors they deem as "toxic masculinity" are behaviors that both men and women exhibit, so why are only men, and specifically Black men, being called out for it?

so you think his sole agenda is to attack the black man

Absolutely. Think about this:

If a white man or woman said these things about Black men there would be an uproar over it because it would be deemed as racist and perpetuating the very same stereotypes that Black men are simply savage, emotionless brutes that only care about themselves. BUT, if you can coerce a Black woman into saying these things, and have that woman say it publicly then you've effectively removed the racist angle from it because, clearly it can't be racist; it's a Black woman saying these things about her own kind. You now have a willing Black pawn to do your racist work for you. Now throw in a few Black men to say it and you're completely hands off; we'll tear each other down for the white man without ever realizing he was the one manipulating the shit the whole time.

well according to this thread, the term was originated for white men, but now the focus has shifted to black men

if females do it, then call it toxic femininity...idc tbh

but the conversation isnt about females, at least in this thread

who do you feel is doing the coercing?

do you think TP just made all the shit up depicted in his films? Or is a look (albeit exaggerated one) into the dynamic of relationships b/t black men and women?

the point being if it's something both males and females do, why are only males being called out on it?

Whites in power, who else?

TP got to where he is because he exploits angry Black women by making movies and tv shows that cater directly to them. Anything that makes a pissed off black woman feel justified for being mad at Black men is fodder for his shows. All of this plays right into white racist plans to destroy the Black family, and thus the Black community, by showing Black men in such a negative light that those of weak mind will believe that all Black men behave in such a manner or will do so if given the opportunity. Gotta remember: Tyler Perry is still beholden to white money when it comes time to get his shit distributed. The ONLY Black person that has the power to push his shit is Oprah, and she's got a few of his shows on her cable channel; the rest are on White funded channels (i.e. TBS) and white-owned movie companies (Lionsgate). Let TP flip the script on it and have him put out a movie showing a completely functional, successful Black family thriving and fighting against racism and watch that shit go direct to video. Let TP do a historical piece about a Rosewood-type of incident and it'll go nowhere but let him put out another "Acrimony" and watch that shit get a full court press in commercials like Acrimony did.

that post is kinda all over the place

i think i understand your pov, but im honestly not motivated enough to give a proper response...at least now

i may or may not be back

answer me this

why would a woman who has an all black cast of both men and women, all of a sudden be on some crusade to attack the black man?

ya'll want everything to be an attack when it aint

are there times when things are just that? absolutely, but this aint it

Her having an all black cast is about as relevant as a bigot with black friends.

He figured out, as many other have, that there's a lot to be made from exaggerating and exploiting some the ills of our community to the point where those situations appear in mainstream to be exclusive to us when they aren't.

His movies ain't nothin but extreme exaggerations mixed with coon shit.

I've worked with a relative and some folks from his childhood. TP had a very troubled childhood due to his father. Taking their stories into account, his portrayal of black men is in line with how one might react to being abused. I won't say agenda, but he could very well have a bias as a victim of abuse. And some of his characters are based on actual family members I've been told. Take that for what you will.

Also TP knows women love his movies. There his main demographic so he sells them what they want to see. Daddy's Little Girls was a huge success given their budget, but he mainly focuses on given the women what they want. Which makes sense business wise. I won't shit on him completely as the man figured out he needed to get his own studio to keep doing what he's doing. A true coon would have submitted to continuing in the playground of racist Hollywood, not build his own playground. I won't cape, but I'm slower to shit on the man.... for now.

Damn... I fucked with the show but I’m not here for this. At all.

I may binge it when the season is over if it turns out that it’s actually good. But for now... fuck that.

So in other words we cant be held to task for making black women feel disrespected because they do some of the same bad shit we do? And so it has nothing to do with being a man just that people are toxic? But black women cant talk about their issuea with black men publicly because its dividing us?
