There's been a lot of issues with Borderlands 4 since the launch. People are saying it's poorly optimized, idk.

I know it's poorly optimized but even when I tinker with settings, my rig just can't handle it

I'm not trying to play this in 480p 🥹

I guess I'm the type to try to squeeze absolutely everything out of a machine before completely upgrading architecture.

Ok so I think it's my processor

My GPU is 8gb and struggling. This dude's is 4gb and his shit, while not pretty, his movement is pretty smooth. I'm glitching like crazy cause of the rendering

This is BF6 running on an i7-7770K, the fastest processor your motherboard supports, along with a more modern GPU.

This only helps me if the GPU is comparable

I might get away with just upgrading the processor to buy me some more time until a complete upgrade

Edit: so this GPU is still less GB than the one I have currently🤔

Lemme see what the used i7-7770k hitting for

I saw a couple of sites that were comparing the RX480 to a Geforce 1060.

With that said, this is BF6 Open Beta running on an even older i7 with the exact same RX480 you have.
Don't know what has changed between the OB and the full game, but maybe there's a chance that it would be playable for you.

I have the Rx 590 but your point remains

Fwiw, I had issues early on in the beta but they released a patch and everything was perfect after that which is why I was surprised I'm having so many issues with the retail version

Ok, gotcha. It looks like maybe they probably changed something and it's causing problems for you.

I do get there's a point where upgrading just isn't worth it unless the parts you add are stupid cheap. Like, I have this Dell Optiplex 3020 across the room from me and it's got an i5-4570 in it. Because there's typical Dell fuckery going on, the fastest processor I can throw in it is an i7-4790S, that "S" meaning a low power CPU (i.e 65W). This is because Dell's fuckery in this machine was with the PSU using a proprietary connector to the motherboard instead of a standard ATX connector so more powerful PSU's can't be added. This limits not only the CPU that can be used, but the GPU as well: I have to go with joints that have very low current draw. However, in this day and age, upgrading to the i7-4790 is only $30 from ebay. The current GPU in there is an older Radeon R9-360, which I copped for $21 from ebay. In theory, I could go as high as a Radeon RX 560 'cause they're pretty light on current draw, only about 65W, but I'd have to catch one for like $30 for the 4GB joint to make it worth it.

For your machine, maybe just a CPU upgrade will make the difference and make the game more playable. If you do that and it doesn't work, I'd probably just build a new machine, mainly because the next two steps are more RAM and a faster GPU, both of which might cost more than it's worth.

So I ended up uninstalling the driver, reinstalling it and it's running A LOT better now.

I'm still trying to tinker with settings but things are looking up

Even borderlands decided to act nice yesterday. It was practically flawless

So I did a thing... Like... right after I made this post. Total with shipping was $36 and change. I'll prolly install it this weekend.

@SeaSnake If you can find a Lenovo Ideapad Gaming 3 for cheap, grab it. I have one but I got it new back in 2020. Upgraded it to 32GB of RAM and it's pretty nice, even now.

This is me playing Doom Eternal on it.

I've been meaning to record a Destiny 2 run on it.

Welp, I don't use this laptop a whole lot, but I keep it near me at all times. Last week I noticed the edge on the mouse pad was lifted on the bottom right and it wasn't registering right clicks like it should. Took a look and there was a bulge and that means the battery is on fuck. Ordered an OEM Lenovo joint and it got delivered Monday. I just took it apart and installed the new one but I'mma wait to put it back together 'cause I saw that my CPU and GPU fans were dirty as shit. Ordered a air compressor and cleaning kit which should be arriving later today. I needed that shit anyways, all my machines need to be cleaned out.

Gotta say, I miss the days when you could replace a laptop battery (or RAM or hard drive) without having to open up the goddamned laptop.

This cell in the middle was the one fuckin up my mousepad.

Still pretty easy to change though

Though I had a dumbass moment when adding another SSD chip to my laptop. It has those screws that loosen and don't come out. I did not know that and kept unscrewing for way too long wondering why the fucker didn't pop out lol
