All things HBCU related thread

This clip gives more insight into why Ed Reed reacted the way he did. He's very much a "all the little things matter" type which is a good attitude to have but it also has to be communicated effectively. He did that here...he didn't really do that in those IG videos.

Shoutout to Ed. Since Reed and a few players along with protest went public they pledged a whole bunch of money to fix some things beyond football.

They don’t do shit unless you shame them publicly which is ashame.

Two things can be true. BCU has major issues that need to be addressed. Some are their own doing, some like many other HBCUS are the fault of alumni lack of support and also support in general.

It can also be true that the way Ed Reed went about his message was wrong. I mean if you're a coach a huge part of your job is your ability to communicate your message in a way everyone can get. He admittedly didn't do that and thus gave folks an excuse to try and dismiss his legit concerns.
You’re right, two things can be true, but the importance of one greatly outweighs the other. The coverage was not proportional to which side was more important.

The school’s mismanagement is disgraceful but all you hear about is Ed Reed’s reaction.

Yeah I was talking with a couple friends about this yesterday. I think the school and some BCU and other HBCU alumni reactions lean more towards "we don't want white folks knowing our business" as opposed to actually wanting to fix the issues. I can get part of that because alot of people group all HBCU schools together and see what's happening at one as a sign of what's happening at every one which is not only wrong but fucked up. However that fear of having dirty laundry exposed has led to serious neglect and that shit 100% needs to be put on blast

Precisely.

Newman alleged that he faced backlash although he repeatedly explained that he was seeking to learn about the views and experiences of Black Americans. He also claimed that many students started to refer to him as “mayo king” (a perceived reference to his race) and “white panther.”

At least they did something good in DC, tho....their swimming program is solid.

A cool article about HBCU grads....

Gallup study reveals that black HBCU graduates are more likely to be thriving in a number of areas of their lives than black graduates of other institutions.

Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) in the U.S. are battling a number of challenges, including declining enrollment numbers and lower-than-average graduation and retention rates. Despite these challenges, a new Gallup study reveals that black graduates of HBCUs are more likely than black graduates of other institutions to be thriving—strong, consistent and progressing—in a number of areas of their lives, particularly in their financial and purpose well-being.
