I respect what some of the young guys doing. But being outside during this era, is why I can honestly say. This one of the worst eras of hip hop, talent wise at least.
X changed the direction of the game, we was gettin too shiny and commercial. Puff and will Smith was gettin outta control lol. X came and checked the game. Remember, Jay took the puff route, failed and then had Dmx get on his album to help get the streets.

This is bs though. Lets keep this on X but Jay never failed as his albums got bigger after each release. No need to try and revise history.

Quick story time. I make rap music. When I first started writin, Puff and will Smith were on top. So of course, all my rhymes were about my imaginary Rolex, Bentley and mansion.
I remember going into 9th grade and hearing X for the first time and thinkin something along the lines of "I can use rap to get my feelings out" or some shit like that. Completely changed the way I approached or listened to music.
