He thought he hit the jackpot by passing and not going.

But again. He momma is foolish as fuck. When the shit starts and stops with her. She really didn’t give a fuck

I think he may be faking his surprise. He knew he wasn't about to graduate. But when you fuck up and your mom says it's not your fault, but someone else's... you ride that easy out.

I'm also not SURE you can't fail a class, and still get promoted...depending on the class. Like if I do Earth Science in 9th grade and fail, that may not stop me from taking biology next year if Earth Science isn't a pre-requisite.

This is mostly on the parent for being completely worthless. They didn't teach this kid any responsibility, weren't involved at all with his schoolwork or teachers, and clearly failed as parents. The fact this kid was in the top half of his class speaks to the whole destruction of our black families in America, we used to be tight as hell. The Drug War and all this White liberal shit has us fucked up. We went from the Cosby model(yehyeh I know that's ironic), to some weirdass shit today where just drifting through life is celebrated.

As for the schools, well I'm not surprised by this because Teacher unions don't give a damn about our kids. They dumbdown the curriculum, spent most funds on admin costs..not students, and prevent us from even going to charters schools. It's why my kids are in private school. This story is heartbreaking to be honest, because that's the future right there. And all the adults failed them.

Well that's what summer school was for. You used to have to have a passing GPA, and any fails madeup. But these unions have been fighting to lower standards, so here we are. You can bet Jewish schools, and Asian schools aren't doing this. Nor the suburban school with white kids. It's only black & brown where they do this and I don't get how people are angry about it all. The hell kind of future will these kids have?

this that Bush "no child left behind" school to prison pipeline

jus pass em up to the next grade/class so even if they do graduate, they don't really kno shit & will more than likely get caught up w/ the laws tryna make sum money cuz they're hustlin on the street

smh

my pops punched me in the face & sent me to school w/ a black eye when I was failing

instead of droppin me off at the front entrance, he pulled around to the back by fieldhouse/football field & asked where's my homework

I'm flippin thru pages like "it's in here somewhere"

he got fed up & hit me w/ a jab

I'm tellin everybody at school I hit my face on the door that mornin

:hahaha:

See

i aint the only dad to sock his child

I got spanked when it was a kid but my father never even thought about hitting me in the face. Never got slapped in the face by my mom either. Some may consider spanking a form of abuse but he never put his full might in it. And it was rare. I had to have really messes up to deserve a spanking.

Don't know if they changed it since I was in school but MD kicks you out of high school at 21. We had guys at 20. Also you could technically be a senior and still have freshman classes. Not sure how that worked out but it happened.

Didn't know they have apps and electronic report cards now. Don't know how you'd forge your parents signature with that

A school with that low of a gpa though is just bad overall. School doesn't care, kid doesn't care until it's too late(near graduation), and the parents busy with work. Just overall bad situation. He could stay in school but that school is shit so I'd agree with others saying he should just get a GED

Not sure how it works in Baltimore or the US in general but here once you got to high school level (grade 9) you needed 31.5 credits to graduate. (18 compulsory, 13 optional credits, 30 hours community service). You didn't necessarily have to pass the "grade" at that level you just kept going by your year expected to graduate and could choose to make up courses in summer school the first 2 years then you could make it up by plugging the failed courses into spares in your schedule the last 2 years. Beyond that if you didn't have the 31.5 then you had to go back to high school for extra semesters.

Assuming the system was something along those lines that's on him and his mom for not keeping up and the school for letting him and a bunch of students slip that far through the cracks.

I fucked around and needed an extra semester to do a bunch of grade 10 courses I failed. That shit sucked. All them kids knew I was 2 yrs older than them. It was embarrassing.

What year did you graduate because that sounds like it was after my time in high school?

I feel like a lot of folks failed this kid. It’s definitely on the mom too but the school literally let anything happen like wtf

The school made mistakes, but they're the least to blame. School shouldn’t have to force education down your throat. School was there everyday. Teachers were there everyday. Grade updates were there.

It's the school's fault he didn't show up? Or that his mom didn't make sure he showed up? Or that he and his mom didn't care that he was getting damn near all F's?

the son knew he was failing........ and i don't believe the mother with the i got 3 jobs& i thought he was passing story either.

Now...he's 17 now. He was 14 when they started passing his ass despite his grades. If some shit starts at the beginning of my high school career...and continues throughout it's entirety...then at the end of my high school career, they're like 'Sike!'...I'd prolly be confused too.

But like someone else said, no one is faultless here.
