Texas Teen Unable To Graduate Unless He Cuts His Dreads

Goldie

A black teenager in Texas said he had been suspended and told he can't walk in his high school graduation ceremony unless he cuts his dreadlocks to meet the school district's dress code.

DeAndre Arnold, a senior at Barbers Hill High School in Mont Belvieu, about 30 miles east of Houston, told NBC affiliate KPRC of Houston that his hair had been in compliance with school rules until recently, when he faced in-school suspension after he refused to cut it.

His friends should stand by him.
CACs come with mullets.
Let this man have his braids

Lol. Right of passage to what? Start paying for education? It's completely unimportant. Its meaningless. The diploma is in the bag. You getting what you came for. These cacs telling him to trade his dreadlocks in for a 7 second walk. You know my address. Send my shit. Expeditiously.

I can see you hanging up like a homo...Lol

But seriously....Not sure about where y'all came up but people in my hood placed a lot of importance on the visual.

The image of accomplishment.

That's why middle schools have graduations.....An parent in my hood would have limos after the graduation to celebrate.

If his grades are on point who gives a fuck how he wears his hair? Fuck outa here with this outdated bullshit nonsense.

Though I understand it might be disappointing for him not to walk across that stage, and that he has earned the right to do so... It's not a necessity. Fuck them

Exactly - school should be worrying about what's in his head not on it

wtf type of oppressive dress code is this

And yes as adults it may not seem like a big deal but the shit is a rite of passage for black people well anybody period it ain’t about the diploma why they wanna stop his shine?

LLS you know you just went against the "it's a right of passage" thing with your post.

You and your backwards ass hood just placed all the importance on the visual and not the actual accomplishment. For all the shit you preach on here you can't make that make sense.

I went to my high school and college graduation because my mother asked me to go because I didn't give a fuck about either. She would've been better off walking across the stage to get both diplomas. Shit I've had my own houses for years and mother still has both of my diplomas cause they just pieces of paper that don't mean shit to me.

As for this case if the young dude really wants to walk across the stage then they should sue the school board or whoever they need to. Shit like this ain't nothing but a power play for those white people and to put black people in their place according to how they see us.

If they lose the case transfer to another school where that ain't a problem and walk across the stage and say fuck them people at the same time.

LOL @ walking across the stage a ‘rite of passage’... no, just no. All graduations for kids are stupid. You did what you were supposed to do... congrats. That paper you get on stage is as good as a Chuck E. Cheese certificate. The one in the mail is your gold. Get it and move on.

sue them crackas and enjoy the time at home while you get ready for college and then when that lawsuit money comes you won’t be a broke college student eating ramen noodles

aye man...

i didnt say i do it...i said what people in my hood did as i was coming up and how it was viewed.
yes, my hood was backwards ...i never said we had it together back then.

i honestly never understood why certain things happen, but as i got older...people just wanted something to be happy for. a reason to celebrate after being in certain environments. i get it...i just dont agree.
