This entire discussion was sparked from the fact The Roots have no hit song.

Do they have great songs that music nerds know about? Yes. But u ignoring how this convo started with these 2 points....
Meanwhile White Lines and The Messege still gettin play

And u said this....

Those are not hits b

:L:

Nothing but absolute bullshit, but ok bet.

You taking Devin out yo top 5? Cause if BT/The Roots ain't got not hits, WTF Devin got?

Shout out to the roots tho

I’m willing to bet more Roots/Black Thought tracks are played on a daily basis by tha masses than BOTH The Message and White Lines!! Y’all keep naming tha same 2 exact songs...classic dope pioneering songs...but if y’all expect me to believe that anybody besides old school hip hop heads are listening to Melle Mel tracks on a daily basis at this time period...y’all bugging...and I’m probably only slightly younger than @5 Grand and @GOAT ...so I do remember these tracks and how impactful they are/were...but I also know by tha late 80’s early 90’s wasn’t nobody going backing bumping him regularly...where as here 25 years later I/people can still listen to Doyouwantmore?!!?!??

Quality of quantity>>>>>>>quality of quality lol

Lmao....truuuuu

So if I start posting hip-hop songs that sample Ozzie Ozbourne or Elvis or some shit does that make those 2 better than BT and The Roots too?? Asking for a friend...

:dfbruh:

You said, "but I also know by tha late 80’s early 90’s wasn’t nobody going backing bumping him regularly."

I posted an Ice Cube track from 93 that sampled The Message, a Dogg Pound track that interpolates New York, New York from 95 and a Puff Daddy track that interpolates The Message from 1996.

Clearly Ice Cube, The Dogg Pound and Puff Daddy were bumping Grandmaster Flash & The Furious 5 in the 90s.

Wow!

Your stupidity knows no bounds

None of these songs ARE White Lines or The Message.

You said "but I also know by tha late 80’s early 90’s wasn’t nobody going backing bumping him regularly."

How, or why, would Ice Cube, The Dogg Pound and Puff Daddy sample The Message and New York New York without bumping them and deciding that they wanted to rap over those beats and use the chorus?

Are you saying that Cube, The Dogg Pound and Puff Daddy sampled those songs, but they didn't listen to them before they walked in the studio?

Who goes to a studio and raps over a song they've never heard?

So again...because you sample summin’ means that you listening to it like that hunh?! Every rap song sampled is because people are constantly listening to that song that’s being at that time hunh?! This what we doing today?? Truuuuuuu Lmao hahahahaha

Wasn’t no YouTube in ‘96 or whenever that Roots song dropped either bruh...y’all cut this shit out...it’s starting to get sadly comical lmao hahahaha
White Lines dropped in 1984 and u wanna compare video views for a music video that dropped in 2000
