These niggas be having 30 rappers in their top 10 :uhhuh6:
I’m just saying name a wack Black Thought verse? I’ll fucking wait! Nigga always brings the heat. Put out 2 quality ep’s last year. The shit he’s done for decades with the roots, that flex freestyle. Like I said in the Redman thread, if Thought ain’t in ya top 5 I don’t know what y’all doing with your life. Oh and my top 5 is

Nas
Big
Jay
Thought
Pun

I voted top 25 and here's why;

He's most definitely a spitter. He uses that machine gun flow with the rapid fire delivery. His lyrics are always on point with his usage of metaphors, similes, alliteration, hyperbole and punchlines.

But my problem is that he doesn't make hits. When I judge an MC, its not just how ill their lyrics are, but do they make radio singles and club bangers?

Nas is one of my favorites but I have him tied with Jay because even though Nas spits better lyrics, Jay is better at making hits.

As far as I know, Black Thought/The Roots have one hit; You Got Me feat Erykah Badu. Otherwise you could listen to commercial radio and go to nightclubs and you wouldn't even know Black Thought exists.

That's why I ranked him top 25.

That's one of the main reasons I rank BT where I do too. U can't be ranked top 10 and not be super significant to the culture. If we removed The Roots albums from hip hop history, nearly nothing changes within the landscape of hip hop. There's too many significant MCs within the game who spit at or near that level.

If we're going off of lyrical skills alone, I got a whole bunch of battle rappers that should be top 10 then.

Yeah if it was just about lyrics Chino XL, Canibus, and Immortal Technique would be top 10.
