What Are You Cooking for Dinner Tonight??

So hear me out. There’s a superstition here in the south, maybe elsewhere, that you are to eat greens 🥬 (leafy green vegetable), black eyed peas, and rice on NY’s day. It supposedly opens the door for better or more financial stability and longevity or long life.

Yep black eye peas on new years day. And some people eat hoghead like the actual hog head. I plan to stop by my aunt house and get some. Just like the first guy that walk in the house suppose to have money in his pocket.

My momma is cooking some hog jowl for her greens. She said it was traditional to eat it on NYD as well. I may or may not indulge. I’m trynna chill out on porky pig.

I gave up pork earlier this year. Plan on cutting out the beef at the beginning of the year.
 
I had neckbones, black eye peas, and cabbage for new years.
I didnt know neck bones were served as a dish. Thought it was just used to flavor foods.

Granted, the pork neck bones I had in my broth, I was gonna put the left over meat in some rice.
 
So second part of ramen making. Im started to make the chashu pork. Underestimated this part. Tying the pork was a little difficult. Also I started to late. Going somewhere tonight so I will have to cook the pork when I get back. Tomorrow is the third and final part. Put it all together. Their was some ribs in the pork belly so I had to cut it out. Gonna freeze that for another time
