Yep black eye peas on new years day. And some people eat hoghead like the actual hog head. I plan to stop by my aunt house and get some. Just like the first guy that walk in the house suppose to have money in his pocket.So hear me out. There’s a superstition here in the south, maybe elsewhere, that you are to eat greens  (leafy green vegetable), black eyed peas, and rice on NY’s day. It supposedly opens the door for better or more financial stability and longevity or long life.

My momma is cooking some hog jowl for her greens. She said it was traditional to eat it on NYD as well. I may or may not indulge. I didnt know neck bones were served as a dish. Thought it was just used to flavor foods.I had neckbones, black eye peas, and cabbage for new years.
