Vanessa Williams recalls 'hurtful' backlash from the Black community after her historic Miss America win

Matter-of-factly, your both political, humanitarian and intellectual accomplishments or ambitions may play an extraneous part into whether one won a beauty pageant contest or not.

Bruh, the didn't choose Vanessa Williams because she was the smartest contestant. Stop it.

The way I see it is... thoughts and actions that go against the status quo are more likely than not going to graduate themselves to a truer, fuller and more honest acceptance by taking baby steps. In 1984, White America choosing a light skin/eyes black woman for Miss America was that baby step.

If more people could have seen it in that rational, pragmatic light maybe there wouldn't have been so much to be up in arms about.
