OPINION The Wire - A Hindsight Discussion

Had Stringer not told Avon that he had D'Angelo killed I believe he would have stopped String from getting killed

Avon did try to save Stringer. Even tho he knew what he did.

When Brother told Avon what Stringer did, he wasn't like "iight, you can have him". He was trying to negotiate til Brother hit em w/ that "your rep" card.
Plus he knew that the beef with Marlo was going to take him out the good dope co-op

So he needed his line to new york

Stringer was foul from jumpstreet. Coulda been straight up with Avon about D but wasn't. Went behind Avon's back to work with Prop Joe. Snitched on his man's. Got schooled by Marlo in their meet-up. Lied to Brother Mouzon and Omar to pit them against each other. Tried to get Slim to assassinate a state senator. Grabbed D's girl just for the hell of it. It just goes on and on a string of L's that end up with his money gettin took and then his life.

Avon made better moves from inside and was back on top by the time the show ended.

String was wrong with his approaches, aint no downplaying that. But he had the right idea in thinking bigger. They could've had control of all the drug operations in the city without ever getting near it. Drug lords with legitimate business. He was naive and impatient with the senator clay shit, but i sided with him on thinking bigger than just the corners.

Truth be told they could do a whole other season, or even a movie. Each season had an underlying theme right? They could do something about the prison industrial complex. Think about all the characters they already have tied into that. Avon, weebay, bird, boris, chris. They could do a whole thing from within the prison with Avon still sending out orders into the streets or w/e.

They were trying to cancel it after season 3 we lucky we got the 5 seasons

Marlo wants to make a play for the connect? Has to go thru Avon and for a price of 100 gs. We already know he ran the prison and now he had Chris politicking with Weebay inside it looks like he'd be even stronger than before. On the outside? When Marlo fumbled the ball guess who picked it up? Avon's right hand Slim Charles. And you know Slim Charles will pay tribute for as long as he is in he chair.

The King remains the King.

His line from NY was already cut from season 1. The Dominicans cut Avon off when ol boy up there caught that charge and he thought somebody w/ Avon might be snitching.

NY at that point was just back-up muscle.
And that's why he was going with Joe at the moment.

But mouzone was telling him NY was ready to supply him again after he gave up string. He knew he was gonna need that cuz Joe was bout to cut him off regardless.

String was trying to do too much.

He wanted to be "the bank" but under all the facade he still was thinking hood which is how Clay took advantage of him.

String was taken advantage of cuz he was trying to mix with people outside his element. He was aiming too high.

Look at prop Joe... He ran a pawn shop and never lived more lavishly than a dude who ran a pawn shop despite everyone knowing what he does.

Look at Brianna. It was heavily implied she had A LOT to do with them taking over the towers. And in season 4 they made it a point to show she was still "living good" when she cut off Naymond mom.

But she was effectively disconnected from the street shit.

Stringer problem was here wanted it all... Oblivious to how much he really didn't know and got played horribly.

Had he just chilled, he could have kept all his money and kept laundering it through small businesses. Trying to be a big dawg in the development world made him food.
