You spend billions on those systems to make sure the missle never land. The idea is your system detects the missles and sends its own missles to blow them up in the air.
If the missles landed exactly where I wanted them too, which was all up in your bases, then it means I got missles that can get through your security.
Iran proved that.
Keep in mind everytime Hamas attacks Israels, Israel uses these same American built defense system and blows all them missles up before they ever get close.
Irans attack proved they can bypass those systems.
Its a significant enough proof to the US that they can touch their bases if they want too.

We agree Iran wants no smoke. Cause even if Iran puts up a decent fight, no way they will ever win a war.
I think all Iran wanted to do was prove beyond a reasonable doubt that if the US wants to go to war, Iran will be able to do some considerable damage even in a loss.
