The Parent Thread

Same question to you...how open are you when these conversations pop up?
Depends on the topic really. If it’s race related I tend to give them a bit more of the reality of it because they may be impacted personally. If it’s something like immigration I might keep it fairly surface.

What I try to do mostly is give them the facts and let them form their own opinions. And when they are expressing opinions not based on facts I correct them.

Tomorrow we’re scheduled to hit The Smithsonian so we’re going to make sure to hit that up. Just glad we’re going to be able to do it before Trump gets his hands on it.
Yeah I would like to take my son there this summer hopefully before they make major changes.

Question for all the parents...do you all have conversations with your kids about current news events?

Hes too young to really understand but he knows some basic stuff. He's 8 and he saw pic of trump when we were at a store and said "Thats the president. He's not a good person".

How much back to school shopping to you all do for your kids? I know some people try and buy clothes for most of the school year.

Also do you have an issue buying school supplies for your child's class? I see this topic has been a debate on social media...

We usually break up the school shopping between spring and summer wear and fall and winter wear. The first half of it is done. As for school supplies, we did all of ours on Amazon.

Do you have any issues with buying supplies beyond basic things like pencils and notebooks? I've seen some videos were parents where not happy with what teachers were asking to buy.

Break it up because he's in the growth spurt stage. Didn't have any issues with school supplies this year

Just me? I’m prolly spending like $250-$300 total. My son is going into 11th grade but luckily he don’t really give a fuck about designer clothes and shit like that. He’d be happy with a new pair of panda dunks and a new backpack. My daughter is starting kindergarten and her mom went overboard like she always does. But she’s still young and clothes are still cheap so it still wasn’t too bad.

Nah, no issue buying school supplies. I’m not a loser.

No. I get that some parents feel that they are buying supplies for the whole class, not just their own kids. But I also know what the school district is up against. When we were buying supplies, Wake County wasn't getting any fed money. The fed money is finally coming through, so hopefully the teachers can get the supplies they need.

Shut the fuck up!! Your son is not going into 11th grade...

Awwww...I had similar experiences when I was her age. I was an early bloomer too so by 4th grade I was tallest kid in the class and had already started my period(which is really funny because I'm only 5'3' lol). My issue was with boys calling me fat more so then girls, but that phase only lasted a little while. Once the other kids catch up with her, the bullying should subside.
A couple of months later, those boys are now liking her because the way that she is built. She is built like her Mom-Mom, my mom. That means I going to have those snot nosed boys coming to my house soon. Lord help me!!!!!!
