Mueller’s Team Prepares To Return To Old Jobs In Sign Probe Really Is Ending

Lawyers on special counsel Robert Mueller’s team have been calling their old bosses in preparation to return to the jobs they had before, a sign that the investigation may truly be at its end.

According to a Wednesday Washington Post report, Mueller’s office is 12 lawyers strong now, down from 17. Eight of them were reassigned from other posts in the Department of Justice.

They would reportedly be able to pitch in with the prosecution of cases launched by Mueller’s investigations from their original posts.

Per the Post, Mueller sees his team’s job as more investigatory than prosecutorial, so will comfortable closing down the formal operation before all the related indictments come down.

Even Interns Are Forced To Sign NDAs In Trump’s White House

Under the guise of “ethics training,” interns in President Trump’s White House are forced to sign non-disclosure agreements during orientation, with the White House counsel’s office issuing warnings about the legal ramifications interns can face if they break the agreement, The Daily Beast reported Thursday.

It’s not an unfamiliar practice in the Trump White House, or for people who have worked for President Trump personally or his reality show or his campaign, including volunteers. The Washington Post reported last year that Trump tried to force his senior White House staff to sign non-disclosure agreements, which come stuffed with dubious legal consequences for ever violating the terms of the agreements.

It is unclear whether the intern NDAs — or others he’s required throughout his career — are legally enforceable. The Daily Beast does not note who the enforcing party is, other than disclosing that the intern agreements are raised during orientation and involve lectures from the White House counsel’s office.

Some former White House officials like former Chief Strategist Steve Bannon and former aide Omarosa Manigault Newman were sent threatening letters by Trump’s attorney Charles Harder for violating their NDAs when they spoke publicly about White House palace intrigue. But the threats never transpired into legal action, as the Daily Beast noted.

A former White House official and a former Trump campaign employee have both filed lawsuits for what they believe are unlawful agreements.

A Defiant King Says He Has ‘Nothing To Apologize For,’ Will Run For Reelection

Blaming the “elitists,” “power brokers” and the media for his swift downfall over his comments about white supremacy, an obstinant Rep. Steve King (R-IA) told the local Iowa Press that he has “nothing to apologize for” and confirmed he’ll seek reelection in 2020.

“Don’t let the elitists in this country, the power brokers in this country, tell you who’s going to represent you in the United States Congress,” he told the Iowa Press, confirming his 2020 bid, despite drawing three primary challengers.

He described his comments to the New York Times — where he was quoted questioning when the term white supremacist became “offensive” — as a “misquote” and blamed the media for “weaponizing” his remarks.

“If you would just hold these publications to what is true, there is no story whatsoever,” he said. “There’s no part of me that believes in anything that’s advocated by folks that identify themselves as white nationalists or white supremacy.”

King was booted from all of his committee posts and condemned by members of his own party after the Times published King’s remarks. But it’s hardly the first time the congressman has been roundly criticized for making racist or anti-immigrant statements.

Another Yearbook Scandal: TN Gov Pictured Wearing A Confederate Uniform

Tennessee Gov. Bill Lee (R) is pictured wearing a confederate uniform in his 1980 yearbook from Auburn University, according to a Thursday Tennessean report.

The picture is reportedly from his fraternity’s annual “Old South” party.

“I never intentionally acted in an insensitive way, but with the benefit of hindsight, I can see that participating in that was insensitive and I’ve come to regret it,” Lee said.

The revelation of Lee’s yearbook photo follows recent examples of politicians’ racist behavior brought to light through a yearbook. The scandal roiling Virginia a few weeks ago began with a picture on Gov. Ralph Northam’s (D) page of his medical school’s yearbook featuring a man in blackface and one dressed in Ku Klux Klan robes.

I’m sure this won’t get a lot national media attention.. Just like Mitch standing in front of that giant confederate flag...

Grand Jury Will Look At Whether To Bring Criminal Charges In NC Ballot Scheme

A grand jury in North Carolina will determine whether or not to bring charges against any of the individuals involved in an alleged ballot fraud scheme that rocked the congressional election in the state’s 9th District, the News and Observer reported on Friday.

The state’s election board voted to hold a new election in the district after conducting a multi-day hearing on irregularities with mail-in ballots in the district. Several witnesses accused an operative working for the Republican candidate in the race, Mark Harris, of running an illegal voter fraud scheme involving mail-in ballots. Harris’ son also alleged that that he warned his father about the operative’s illegal tactics before he was hired to work for the campaign in testimony that brought the candidate to tears.

The dramatic week ended with the Republican candidate, Mark Harris, calling for a new election and walking out of the hearing before finishing his testimony. It’s not clear whether he will run again for the seat.
