Gillum Reverses Concession In Response To FL Governor Race Recount

Florida gubernatorial candidate Andrew Gillum (D) announced he was withdrawing his concession after the state began a recount in the extremely tight governor race on Saturday.

“I am replacing my earlier concession with an unapologetic and uncompromised call to count every vote,” Gillum tweeted.

The Democrat had conceded the race to Republican opponent Ron DeSantis late Tuesday. “We didn’t win it tonight,” he told his supporters.

However, as the vote gap between the two candidates continued to shrink throughout the week, Gillum’s campaign said it was ready for “any outcome,” including a recount.

DeSantis is ahead of Gillum by 0.41 percentage points. A margin of 0.5 percent or less triggers a recount in Florida. There will also be a recount for the similarly tight Senate race between Sen. Bill Nelson (D-FL) and Republican challenger Rick Scott.

Miriam Adelson, Wife Of GOP Mega Donor Sheldon, Will Receive Medal Of Freedom

Miriam Adelson — the doctor, philanthropist, political donor to conservative causes and wife of GOP megadonor Sheldon Adelson — will be awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom alongside six others including baseball legend Babe Ruth, and Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-UT), the White House announced Saturday.

Miriam and Sheldon Adelson together gave more than $100 million to Republican candidates and organizations during the 2016 election cycle and tens of millions more during the 2018 cycle, leading to a conflict-of-interest-ridden relationship with GOP establishment, including accusations that President Donald Trump advocated on behalf of the Adelsons’ casino interests.

Concerns about appearances didn’t seem to matter when it came to selecting Medal of Freedom recipients.

Alongside Miriam Aldeson, President Donald Trump on Saturday named as Medal of Freedom recipients Ruth, Hatch, former football player and Minnesota Supreme Court Justice Alan Page, former football player Roger Staubach, Elvis Presley and the late Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia.
