The Official Sneakerhead Thread 👟

This looks like it primarily focuses on the running division but hopefully it spreads throughout the company.

Stop buying retros lol

I was just reading a story on Bloomberg Businessweek about Nike’s drop and Donahoe’s part in it. Dude was a Bain consultant and e-commerce guy who didn’t understand sneakers at all. Leaned into lifestyle shoes like Dunks and AJ1’s and away from sneaker technology and design.

I used to check the SNKRS app regularly but now I barely do. Nike is trash right now and if it weren’t for their vault they’d be done for already.

Ah ok

I didn't understand the significance of this move but I for one know that I haven't been excited by a Nike release for a few months now

Oversaturation with retros or rather the same silhouettes. Once I get this last pair of shoes I've had my eye on, I could legit see myself not buying any sneakers next year.

Every flight that I’m on, I see at least 5-10 people with the Jordan 1 lows on. And it’s people of all ages. It’s disgusting

It is, but when the boom first happened the CEO was getting praised for it. It drove sales very high and he streamlined a lot by cancelling contracts with certain retailers and driving sales to Nike stores and Nike.com which increased margins.

It was shortsighted though because as those silhouettes got oversaturated they didn’t have a plan to fill those spots with new shoes. And other shoe companies like Adidas, Under Armor, Crocs, Hoka, etc. filled the shelves of the retailers Nike turned their backs on.

I saw a tweet from a sneaker account I follow where someone was surprised that a Kobe release still had sneakers in good sizes in brick and mortar stores. That's how it should be

Yeah Nike losing their connection with actual stores and doing collabs with them was huge... I used to mark all the Tier 0 stores and hit up all of them in and around London, you used to find mad sneakers that you hadnt even seen before...

Same internationally, Daves Quality Meat was a big store that folded in the states quite a while back, TheGoodWillOut not so long ago etc... So many GOAT stores closed up... Crooked Tongues closing in the UK was really sh!t...

Ive been this way for ages, literally nothing has really excited me in recent years, apart from the 1 or 2 joints, like the Fire Reds (that I missed out on)...

Though the way the culture shifted to teens just hyping up sneakers and buying to flip or to just have the 'in' thing really helped ruin my enthusiasm too... Especially knowing theres a high percentage chance you couldnt cop the sneaker even if you wanted it because the bots and resellers...

Plus the quality control had been trash for years too, though I think Nike have upped that abit more...

Though I still think Nike have great tech innovation for running sneakers, its just that there is more competition in that space by new brands, like Hoka etc

I think Nike have lost a little bit of their 'cool factor' too, alot of celebs and influencers are wearing newer brands like ON, Hoka, Veja etc and Ive noticed New Balance, Asics and Karhu getting more popular in North America too...

The only people who should be upset are Nike Execs, Resellers and Hype Beast.

If you're a real sneakerhead, this is the perfect time to cop all the shoes you want for retail price.
I agree, but the downside is we’re not getting those new Nike’s we’ve been used to getting for so long.

Yea, the market will go back to normal soon tho.

But for now, it's time to grab all the retro kicks you weren't willing to spend 5x retail for.

The Deion's and bred 1's are at the top of my list for 2025.

Are bots still buying up the releases though and just selling for almost retail on StockX etc???

I wanted to cop the Nike Air Tech Challenge 2's but slept (again) and see they eventually sold out... In the old days I would had put a timer on my phone and copped at the second they dropped... I was just hoping to catch them in the sale...

As far as bots, probably. Those sites don’t know anymore which shoes are going to have a big markup on the secondary market so they just get it all. Their margins had to take a major hit though with hypebeast culture dying down.

Nevermind lol

I'm not sure what a capsule is but it doesn't sound like they are going to make them to sell

Theyre different, are they skate shoes??? Im feeling them though... Colourway is dope...

Yea they're skater shoes. Probably my favorite NB:
