The Official DCU Thread

Hopefully the new Slade is good as well.

Ollie stole so much from Batman and Dick Grayson for the show...

But Slade is truly and 100% Dick Grayson's biggest enemy....

I hope they knock this out the park... Cuz this version of Dick Grayson is already imo the best version outside the comics next to Robin in the Teen Titans cartoon

In some shocking Friday afternoon news, The Flash might soon be without a star. According to new reports from THR, Ezra Miller has taken it upon himself — with the assistance of legendary comic writer Grant Morrison — to take over scripting duties for the solo speedster flick. If the studio chooses to skip over the Miller/Morrison script in favor of one from The Flash directors John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein, it's said that Miller could exit the role of Barry Allen.

Reports indicate the Miller/Morrison script has a much darker tone than that of the one Daley and Goldstein have on the table. It's said that Miller has an uphill battle in his quest after Warner Brothers isaiming for the light-hearted tones seen in both Aquaman — a billion dollar movie for the studio — and Shazam!, the David F. Sandberg-led flick that's been a smash with critics.

For a film about the Scarlet Speedster, The Flash has had a notoriously slow time making it to theaters. Miller's been attached to the role ever Zack Snyder cast him for a cameo in Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice but ever since, the movie has struggled to gain any footing at Warner Brothers. It's featured a rotating cast of directors before finally settling on Daley and Goldstein now over a year ago.

Just last month, Miller was approached about the film's delay in an international press stop for the latest Fantastic Beasts film. Then he mentioned that the crew behind the flick was being very meticulousas they moved forward with the property.

Anyone who knows anything about Barry Allen knows that he's always late," Miller explained. "But then when he arrives, he gets stuff done. And that's definitely how this film's production schedule is proceeding. We're a little late."

"But the reason why we are late," the actor continued. "And this is the honest to godtruth... We're all — and I include myself in this — we are very meticulously focused on making a movie that's not just one of the greatest superhero movies that we can possibly make. This movie's also going to be a gift to the fans."

He's not leaving the project. He just got so caught up he wanted to write instead of act...

Dude wants to make the best flash movie possible, even if he's not the right star for it

Well his holding contract is up in May. If wb doesn't accept his script and Miller doesnt like the directors script, he can leave the project. Its sounding like him and the directors are having creative differences and not agreeing if Miller himself is willing to team up with Morrison and do a whole new script. He wants his movie to be snyderesque and not this lighthearted bullshit they did with aquaman

James Gunn's The Suicide Squad is a 'Total Reboot', Says Producer

"DCEU producer Peter Safran says James Gunn's The Suicide Squad is a "total reboot" of the franchise and not really a sequel to David Ayer's movie. Ayer's Suicide Squad was the third entry in DC's cinematic universe (following Man of Steel and Batman V Superman), but the first to focus on lesser-known comic book characters, with the exception of Harley Quinn. Ayer's DCEU film went on to become a commercial success despite the relative obscurity of its source material, taking in $747 million at the global box office against a $175 million budget.

At the same time, Suicide Squad was poorly received by critics and Ayer declined to return for Suicide Squad 2. The project subsequently went through a few changes in creative personnel, before it landed in Guardians of the Galaxy filmmaker and newly-reinstated Guardians of the Galaxy 3 directorGunn's lap last October. However, from the get-go, Gunn's idea for the film was described by DC as a "completely fresh take" on the antihero property, and has since been officially dubbed The Suicide Squad, not Suicide Squad 2.

In an interview with JoBlo to promote the upcoming DCEU movie Shazam!, Safran went a step further and called Gunn's The Suicide Squad a full-blown reboot. Here's his exact quote on the subject:

"First of all, we don’t call it Suicide Squad 2 ‘cause it’s a total reboot, so it’s The Suicide Squad and I think people should be extremely excited about it. It’s everything you would hope from a James Gunn script and I think that says a lot and that promises a lot and I know that we will deliver a lot."
While it might not be a sequel, Gunn's The Suicide Squad won't be a hard reboot either. The film is bringing back Deadshot from Ayer's DCEU movie, only with Idris Elba taking over the role from Will Smith (who had to drop out due to a scheduling conflict). It's also been reported that Margot Robbie will reprise her role as Harley Quinn in the sequel, following her second turn as the character in Birds of Prey (And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn). Beyond that, The Suicide Squad will supposedly feature a whole new character roster, so it's not unreasonable to argue that the film is more reboot than sequel, as Safran has.

Some fans are theorizing that Gunn plans to kill most of The Suicide Squad in his film and is stacking the film's team with unknowns (as far as mainstream audiences are concerned), for related reasons. Indeed, one of the complaints about Ayer's Suicide Squad was that its titular "Skwad" didn't really live up to its name, as ultimately only Slipknot (who barely had any screen time) and El Diablo bit the dust. If Gunn's idea for "rebooting" the series is to really lean into the idea of a team of bad guys going on missions that will most likely get them killed, then it's definitely an exciting one that we can get behind."

Warner Bros. CEO Kevin Tsujihara Steps Down

After weeks of scandal, Warner Bros. CEO Kevin Tsujihara has officially stepped down from his position at the studio. This was confirmed by internal emails that went out to staff members at Warner Bros. today, Comicbook.com has learned from sources.

Here's the statement that Warner Bros. issued internally, regarding Tsujihara's departure:

"WarnerMedia today announced that Kevin Tsujihara will step down as Chairman and chief Executive Officer of Warner Bros. Entertainment.

'It is in the best interest of WarnerMedia, Wanrer Bros., our employees and our partners for Kevin to step down as Chairman and CEO of Warner Bros.,' said WarnerMedia CEO John Stankey. 'Kevin has contributed greatly to the studio's success over the past 25 years and for that we thank him. Kevin acnowledges that his mistakes are inconsistent with the Company's leadership expectations and could impact the Company's ability to execute going forward.'

The Company continues to work with a third-party law firm to complete its investigation with Mr. Tsujihara's cooperation.

WarnerMedia has yet to name a successor for Tsujihara."

The road to Kevin Tsujihara's departure was paved by an expose that the Warner Bros. CEO had entered into a alleged 'Pay for Play' sexual relationship with actress Charlotte Kirk starting back in 2013, when she was just 21 at the time. Text messages have revealed the back-and-forth process of Kirk engaging in a sexual relationship with Tsujihara over the course of three years, in exchange for promises of casting in the studio's major tentpoles. Other famous Hollywood power players like Brett Ratner and Avi Lerner were pulled into the scandal, while apparently trying to implement Tsujihara's promises to Kirk to get her roles in bigger films.

Kirk originally denied the existence of the scandal, issuing a statement in early march that, "I emphatically deny any inappropriate behaviour on the part of Brett Ratner, James Packer, and Kevin Tsujihara, and I have no claims against any of them."

However, she's since gone back on that denial, acknowledging that the scandal is indeed real:

"I acknowledge I may have made some poor choices and I'm sorry for that," Kirk told the MailOnline. "But I've learnt from my mistakes since then and grown a lot, as a person, as a woman, and as a professional actor. I can't stay quiet any more. It's bad enough to be defined by others, but when the person they put on the page has no relationship to who I am, I feel compelled to speak out."

This major shift in Warner Bros. leadership comes at a time when Tsujihara was just starting to show off his prowess at taking the studio in a better direction - most notably with the DC Films franchise, which has struggled since Zack Snyder launched the franchise on the backs of Man of Steel and Batman v Superman. After Tsujihara was singled out along with Snyder for the early failure of the DCEU, he helped spearhead the movement to give a more diverse range of directors like Wonder Woman's Patty Jenkins and Aquaman's James Wan a chance to put their creator-driven stamps on the DC film properties, resulting in much greater box office success and fan appeal.

In fact, the DC films franchise is coming into 2019 strong, with Aquaman having earned $1 billion, Shazam! scoring big in its first wave of reviews, and the highly-anticipated Joker origin movie opening up a big new lane of unique creator-driven DC standalone films. Until we know more about who might replace Kevin Tsujihara, it's hard to say just how the future of the DCEU and so many other WB movie franchises will be altered.

'The Batman' Movie Rumored Logo Surfaces Online

The logo currently being used for work on The Batman may have been revealed. The logo was sent ot GWW writer Thomas Polito, who believes it is legitimate. “He’s [sic] the (rumored) temporary Batman logo!” he tweeted. “If it’s used in the suit, the font and coloring will change, but the outline will remain the same or close to it.” In another tweet, he wrote, “The logo I received for The Batman seems to be legit; if it is, it’s just a temporary placeholder one they’re using internally to put on various pieces of concept art in such. Cross between OG [Batman: The Animated Series] and Telltale logo.”

The Batman is being directed by Matt Reeves. In a recent interview, Reeves suggested the casting process will begin soon, saying “There will be a Rogues Gallery. The casting process will begin shortly. We're starting to put together our battle plan. I'm doing another pass on the script and we'll begin some long-lead stuff to start developing conceptual things.”

One of the biggest casting challenges will be to replace Ben Affleck as Batman. Rumors suggest Reeves is looking for a younger Batman for a film set earlier in the Dark Knight's career. Other rumors suggest that Warner Bros. has already narrowed down the choice to a handful of frontrunners.

Reeves has stated that his Batman movie is influenced by the classic Batman: Year One comic book story, but it will not be a straight adaptation of any particular comic book storyline.

"Year One is one of the many comic books that I love. We are definitely not doing Year One," Reeves said. "It’s just exciting to be focused very specifically on a tale that is defining for him and very personal to him. Obviously, we’re not doing an origin tale or anything like that. We’re doing a story that is definitively Batman though, and trying to tell a story that’s emotional and yet is really about him being the world’s greatest detective and all the things that for me since I was a kid, made me love Batman."

Good fucking riddance to Tsujihara.

The ears on that rumored Bat logo are too small. I read somewhere that the new batsuit will supposedly be based on the one from the Telltale games. Batfleck had the best batsuit IMO but the Telltale one ain't bad either. I just want to see white eyes in the cowl finally.

Okay. This is a step in the right direction.

i think good things are coming... time to swing the momentum back to the home team

Um wasnt he the one who actually turned the movie direction around since Snyders JL??? Not sure why everybody is happy I thought he was the reason they DCEU has turned head up and the guy before him was the issue??

Um wasnt he the one who actually turned the movie direction around since Snyders JL??? Not sure why everybody is happy I thought he was the reason they DCEU has turned head up and the guy before him was the issue??
He's the reason BvS was cut, Suicide Squad was re wrote mid production, and J League was the mess it was. He's made the DCEU a marvel clone and not a very good one.

Oh ok makes sense then but I swore it was the guy before him.
Nah he took over a little bit before the DCEU was established. He took CEO in 2013, BvS was released in 2016. Pre production was started in 2013 for bvs though.

I think I know who you might be thinking of though, there was a new president i think that took over that role in the middle of all the DCEU troubles, but i cant remember his/her name. The CEO has always been Kevin since the beginning of DCEU though. Im not sure how hands on any of these people are either though so it really could be someone elses fault entirely for all the mishaps DC has had. So many damn people involved lol.
