I don't know if we'll ever know the truth but my new hypothesis is that perhaps Man U have tendencies of being "panic buyers" in some instances.

I'm thinking Tevez about to leave Arsenal for City, then United hijacking the deal.

More recently Ronaldo off to city, then United in record time hijacking the deal

Reading comments and articles from last year, it sounded like VdB was pretty much a done deal to Real Madrid until Covid happened, I therefore wonder if Man U did another hijacking without truly realising whether they wanted him until after the fact?
