Jose Mourinho calls Jurgen Klopp's U-turn on big spending 'funny' and piles pressure on Liverpool boss to deliver the Premier League title
  • Jose Mourinho believes the pressure is now on Liverpool to win the title
  • Jurgen Klopp was critical of Manchester United's purchase of Paul Pogba in 2016
  • But the German has spent £250million alone this year at Liverpool

Jose Mourinho says it's 'funny' that Jurgen Klopp has changed his opinion about big spending and believes the pressure is now on the Liverpool boss to win the title.

Klopp famously suggested two years ago that he would quit football rather than pay exhorbitant sums like Manchester United's then world record £89million purchase of Paul Pogba.

But after spending £250million this year alone at Liverpool - including breaking the records for a defender and goalkeeper to sign Virgil van Dijk and Alisson - Klopp's change of heart has amused Mourinho.

'If you invest well, it's better than having it in the bank, because the interests are very low,' said the United boss when asked about his rival's spending ahead of Saturday's meeting between the two clubs in Michigan.

'The problem is you have to invest well and, honestly, I think they did very well because every player they bought are quality players.

'I'm happy for them. And I'm also happy to smile and to see that, you know, you can change your opinion and change as a person. It's funny. But that's okay.'

Mourinho warned Klopp that he should now be expected to deliver Liverpool's first title in 29 years.

'This season finally you demand that they win, added Mourinho.

'You I think have to be fair and now you have to demand and say the team with investments you are making last season, that you made in January, that you make now, that will probably be the record of the Premier League this season, a team that was a finalist in the Champions League, l have to say you are a big candidate. You have to win.'

Chelsea fans have no fear, you've signed a new goalie.......Rob Green!

'It is a thrill and an honour to be here': Chelsea confirm signing of former England goalkeeper Rob Green
  • Rob Green completed his free transfer to Chelsea on Thursday morning
  • The 38-year-old joins after leaving Huddersfield at the end of last season
  • He joins as third-choice goalkeeper behind Thibaut Courtois and Willy Caballero

On a side note, if you were filling a quota then why not go for Joe Hart?

Lol reading is clearly a issue here.

What was misread...Chelsea signed Rob Green as a goalkeeper. Again if it was for an English/British squad quota, why not go for Hart? I'm sure even a young buck from the academy would have been a better choice than Green!

Here's another article that is even more damning:

‘Green signing is being called one of the biggest jokes in Chelsea history’

Can you imagine Reina, Caballero and Green. The nearest in football you will ever have to the 3 stooges.
blaze

I am shocked by the Green signing okay if it is for a 3rd choice keeper maybe its okay not even too sure about that and I hated Reina at Liverpool as any kind of decent keeper, his okay as a shot stopper as Caballero and Green are or were but cowardly and erratic when coming for the ball or crosses. If these are going to be our 3 keepers this season then God help us. I imagine and hope desperately we will go for the likes of Schmeichel or Butland when Courtious leaves, theres not much time left.
monty

Let’s try and forget about Rob Green he’s merely there to overcome the problems with the homegrown rule and like Eduardo before him is extremely unlikely ever to play for Chelsea
I would be disappointed if we sell Courtois and Reina is signed as our No 1 but Sarri clearly has confidence in Reina even at 35 from his time at Napoli if we were to sign Reina it would need to be a short term signing until we find a suitable long term replacement for Courtois.

I would still prefer Schmeichel or Oblak but I doubt Leicester will agree to sell Schmeichel and Oblak has an £86m buy out clause which leaves just Butland without we cast our net much wider and there is previous little time left to do that.

This is a major error by the Club they knew the problems with Courtois and this situation should have been taken care of last summer and it’s ridiculous that we are where we are now with Courtois without putting plans in place for a suitable replacement a quality DOF would never have let this situation transpire and a Goalkeeper of Courtois quality run his contract down like this without taking action.

In respect of Courtois Real can agree terms but until they agree a price with Chelsea it won’t happen.
nine nine nine

Chelsea has almost 13 million followers on Twitter. I don’t think it’s a joke at all but the signing of Green and possibly Reina is being ridiculed as one of the biggest jokes in history on the Chelsea site. It’s sarcasm, critisim, anger pouring in from the world wide fans. Maybe they don’t understand the home grown necessity but it is embarrassing for the club.

I don't know may be they don't think Hart is first choice quality.
And if that's the thinking he's not leaving city bench to be on Chelsea's.

Also I'm sure green wages will be lower than harts and like stated in the article he will probably never play.

As for the number 1 let's see what happens. Got 2 weeks?

Maurizio Sarri remains interested in a deal for Serbian attacking midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic.

The 23-year-old has also been linked with Manchester United and Real Madrid, but it has been reported that Lazio are demanding nearly €100m for their prized asset.

Can't have Chelsea's midfield being better than ours, no señor

Just remember that's 2 weeks for English clubs to finalise their business. Madrid can still come for Courtois as their window closes later, so Courtois's head better not be turned otherwise they'll be no way of replacing him till January!

Dude, whats wrong with u? They are trying to get their jokes off, let them have fun. LOL

@Valentinez A. Kaiser Keeps bringing up Hart, but he is not stupid enough to think Hart would come here to be the 3rd string GK, so he has to be trolling, right?

If he is just trolling, let him have his fun.

Rob Green prolly wont see any football, which is why Chelsea prolly didnt name an academy/U21 keeper as their 3rd choice, it makes more sense for young keepers to go out on loan and get regular football and experience, not sitting on the bench...

SMH United going in for for £60mil+ for Maguire??? Dude was near enough £12mil last season, I just dont rate him THAT highly...

@Hundredeyes see Brighton signed ANOTHER player from the Dutch league haha whats AZ Alkmaar's Alireza Jahanbakhsh like??? Is he worth the £17mil???
