Honestly, I think it was less them trying to ignore her Haitan background and more them trying to promote the Asian side. When it comes to sports, even ones that aren't traditionally the blackest, Blacks of all types are very well represented. Asians as a demographic aren't, so they were probably trying to appeal to that market.

On the other hand, it's kinda pointless given that I'm pretty sure people in Japan wouldn't consider her Japanese especially given that the Japanese parent is the mother not the father.

That woman is an idiot. Sexuality is about sex. I just finished a gender studies course, and most of the discipline needs to be fuckin purged. There is so much dogma spread, in the face of damning criticism, it is no wonder countries are starting to pull their federal funding for Gender Studies
