They've been trying to get it off the ground shit shouldn't even require crazy effects. Different immortals throughout the world who clash at times and kill eachother for power.

You could even add some enhanced strength and speed to further differentiate them from regular humans. They can survive anything and only beheadings can kill them. Plus in the lore I read that it can happen if you're a kid too and an evil higlander could kill them due to being easy prey and shit.
