I pretty much agree with this tho I don't think it's only republicans to blame (surprise right?)
But I do think it's a damned if u do, damned if u don't scenario
In MY opinion though, savings lives is always more important.
But isn't this ultimately up to the individual states?
I also think, conspiracy theories, being as prevalent as they are, are the driving force behind all the push back of shelter in place. Even more so exacerbated by actually being laid off and broke.
You are absolutely right that both are to blame.
This has been an overall pathetic response from our government on all levels.
I don’t think this should be completely up to the states, however.
#1 There is no way for them to address a historic pandemic with the budgets and capital they possess
#2 I should not be subjected to a higher percentage of death and financial ruin because I happen to live under an incompetent governor.
Will states be responsible for much of the execution - sure.
But the Federal Government should set the tone, mandate baseline protocols, and provide adequate resources to the respective healthcare institutions, small businesses, state and local governments, and the American people across the country.
Yes - conspiracy theories, and fear mongering are big part of the problem. But again people don’t have to be broke, that is a political choice that has been made - if you have $3,000 coming from a corporation or $3,000 coming from a federal Direct Deposit, instead for a few months; what is the tangible difference in your buying power; your financial situation?
Nothing.
I think perhaps the biggest problem is the Rampant propaganda from the President, the Republican Party, and almost the entirety of Conservative media.
The opinions and convictions of our population are largely subject to influence and malleability from the media.
And right now it is having dangerous effects.
