SPINOFF: How important are Names?

I don't care about how society views creative Black names.

I'm going to give my child a name that resonates with me.
It will be a strong, creative, Black AF name and will more than likely have a red line under it on Microsoft word.

I dont care.

Names are very important. Imo your name is supposed to have meaning.

Whether white people or whoever judge you by not having a more socially common name is irrelevant.

We as Black people should work to own our own shit anyway and not worry about being a white man's employee.

Also having a different or an uncommon name builds character.

All of this!

can we stop centering white folks for once?

I dont care about their thoughts on my childs name lmao

I believe in my heart, if white ppl could, they'll be giving their child these same names we name our children...white folks are some boring ass ppl my gosh...somewhat offense to the whites on here...

Doesn't set a good precedence. You're gonna tell ur son to cut off his dreads because society's gonna judge him? Gonna tell your daughter to not wear her hair natural and straighten it because society will judge her? When does it stop? They're gonna get judged regardless. Stop letting society control your life.

This is a very good point because I know a lot of people who wont let their children grow locs because of society's thoughts on natural hair.

I remember Steve Harvey laptop teeth having ass was telling the boys in his mentor program to cut their dreads because of how they would be looked at..

I can't stand when old black folks say "tap shoeing" shit like that.
This part of the discussion is personal to me but he also told his son not to grow locs because no lawyer can have locs. Now don't get me wrong I have very strong feelings about those who choose to grow their hair without an understanding of what and why but that is up to them. Also, please don't think everyone with locs is Rastafari and people without locs can't be Rastafari.

Yesssss sis. Its crazy.

I hear it all the time.

Or they make their children cut their hair after a certain age

or even adults cut their locs off because they feel as though they cant get certain jobs or be accepted into mainstream society.

real spill.
I've seen this a lot (n done it myself in my yute)

but it's sad that ppl r cutting off locs for employers. they take yrs to grow :(

Shit's legal to fire somebody because of their locs too

I said it in another thread one of the main reasons why I started my own company is because of what I felt was happening in at work. Being black problem number 1, Rasta problem number 2, Black Family and you don't play golf good luck with that.
