It's not just this one song tho. We've had this conversation multiple times about multiple songs and the genre as a whole.

It's also less an indictment on black people and more an indictment on the people funding, promoting, and reaping the benefits of flooding our community with this content largely not being black and not pushing this content through their communities with mainstream white artists. You keep ignoring that point even tho I make it everytime this comes up.

I don't have the same mentality I had at 19 that I have 40. I didn't have the same mentality at 10 that I had at 19. Im certain there were things and choices most of us made 20+ years ago that we wouldn't make today.

The 2nd paragraph i agree with. Like i said what I don't agree with is using this song as some indictment on a person's morality because they like it. Or saying they'd be influenced to start scamming because of it. Or that it paints a picture of Black people as a whole. Or that somehow Black people are the only group that engages in content related to criminal activity. Just look at the biggest shows and movies. Most are some form of a criminal drama about people doing heinous shit.
 
I remember chicks who was in grad school screaming "I'm so hoooood" during the Khaled run... Ain't shit hood about them, and I'm sure there were people who felt claiming the hood was detrimental to black culture.... We shouldn't be glorifying hood culture.... There's people selling drugs, pimping, killing people right now that idolize or have idolized rappers they've listened to rapping about the same shit and we're heavily influenced by that or influenced by people who were influenced by that.

And this is the point of disagreement. Saying a person is influenced by a song to go kill somebody is a leap. And it's interesting Du used the Marvin Gaye example because the shit he did in real life would put the content of most rap songs to shame. So which is worse? A song or how a person is actually living their life?

The people promoting this are culpable, but so are the artists making the music and consumers buying it. And it’s made and bought because the content depicts a reality in our communities.

I think it’s foul that non-blacks are pushing this shit, but I wouldn’t want a black exec to push it either.
