aaliyah on the other hand.... she had the look and the sound, and she had the vibe, i feel like she defined the 90's

i ain't see no chick trying to be like janet in the 90's, but they was all dressing and imitating aaliyah's vibe....

and one in a million was like the most highschool talent show choreographed song of the 90's...

every time a girl got on stage, you knew she was gonna dance to that song
Absolutely this.

Look y’all, for me the beauty of these tournaments is not about me making sure that my nominations win the thing, the beauty is that we get out of self in order to show some objectivity.

Earlier in this tournament, my nominee Adina Howard was going up against a Mya song. Well, I voted against my nominee because that particular Mya song was a banger that would get any crowd moving quicker than the Adina song....in my opinion.

I bring that up because none of you can honestly tell me that Anytime Anyplace will move the crowd like One In A Million. None of you can honestly say that.

My wife (early 30s), her friends, females in my family, and even the MOST HARDCORE niggas I know will automatically start moving the moment the beginning of the song starts saying ....“Love It Baby” with that Timbo beat .....through the speaker.

I have never seen Anytime Anyplace get that same reaction.

That right there, for me, shows clearly which song is supposed to win this round.

Du drunk, all those dancing chicks were trying to be like Janet. Beyonce wasn't groomed since a young age to be what she would become?
she was, but the difference is the family name/clout. If you're a label exec/producer/songwriter/etc. and you get approached by Beyonce's dad saying you should check out her and her Destiny's Child group or Joe Jackson approaches you and says you should check out MJ's lil sister Janet, which one are you more likely to follow up with?

This is the dumbest fuckn statement ever.

Tootise Roll will "move the crowd" more than The Worlds is Yours, that don't make it a better song.

Janet definitely was motivation for a lot of those women, but Janet was groomed from birth for the industry...

those women you named had talent first then were discovered.

there was no discovery with janet....she was coached and trained and was married to her songwriters....

she had the best of everything at her disposal.....you put any female in that situation they're going to be at the very least....as good as janet......

i hate that i have to knock her for it, but i never saw anything about janet that made her stand out to me......all i saw was her gooing through the motions...

aaliyah on the other hand.... she had the look and the sound, and she had the vibe, i feel like she defined the 90's

The rumor mill said Aaliyah was married to a songwriter her damn self and didn't Aaliyah have the best producers in R Kelly and Timbaland. How you going to fault Janet when Aaliyah was working with top people too

Too bad all that didn’t work for most of the Jackson’s.

nigga when i went to the skating rink as a teenager... one in a million was one of those songs you had to skate with ur girl on.....

But Janet was born a Jackson, she was a sure shot to have a successful solo career. You know like Jermaine and Rebbie.

i remember watching girls do the dance choreography from "one in a million" and "are you that somebody" like every weekend outside back in the 90's

now maybe in the late 80's they were dancing to pleasure principal and rhythm nation.... but in the 90's Aaliyah was the front runner in that department....

not faulting her at all,

i'm just stating the circumstances....

aaliyah was groomed from a teenager after she was discovered...she was still doing star search n shit at the age janet was already on tv as penny

While Janet has the more extensive, influencial and successful career

song for song, Aaliyah has undeniably classics that are considerably better than some of Janet singles

this is an example of that

Only One In A Million and Are You That Somebody can even be mentioned and they will lose, no other song in Aaliyah's catalog comes close to any song of Janet's

Not a dumb statement. You’re just incapable of understanding the statement.

You just took from it what you wanted to take from it. The people with common sense on this board understand clearly what I meant.

i call bullshit

as long as janet's career is she has more than enough throw away songs that are't fucking with a lotta aaliyah's shit

What's being considered an advantage could just as easily if not more so be considered a disadvantage. The Jackson name was well established by the time Janet entered the music scene. The name alone not going to keep you in the industry look at Rebbie and Latoya...even Jermaine.. they all had access to the same opportunities as Janet yet it didn't happen for them. I'm not going to put Aaliyah over Janet bc she wasn't "discovered". She had to give people a reason to care that she wasn't just another Jackson cashing in on the name. For her to be the second most accomplished Jackson out of all them says a lot in my opinion.
