Louisiana Mayor Bans Use of Nike Products at City’s Rec Center

Mayor Ben Zahn of Kenner City, Louisiana released a statement demanding no Nike products be used or bought by the city’s recreational center, which is presumably due to the athletic company’s decision to run ads supporting former NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick’s protests against police brutality.

The mayor signed and sent the following memo to the city’s Parks and Recreation Department Director Chad Pitfield, per WBRZ 2:

Effective immediately all purchases made by the booster club operating at any Kenner Recreation Facility for wearing apparel, shoes, athletic equipment, and/or any athletic product must be approved by the Director of Parks and Recreation, or his designee. Under no circumstances will any Nike product or any product with the Nike logo be purchased or used…at any City of Kenner Recreation Facility.”

The statement comes amid a national outcry against Nike from conservatives, as the company had Kaepernick lead their 30th anniversary “Just Do It” campaign — with the slogan “believe in something even it means sacrificing everything,” since he lost his job in the NFL after his protests racism against America’s justice system.

This might have already been discussed, but I saw a dope meme about how Colin's protest is distorted and perverted, described by white media as a national anthem protest rather than a police brutality protest

It completely flew under my radar how his true intentions were transmogrified, making his actions look worse than they are. If you read 'national anthem protest' it sounds way worse than 'police brutality protest during national anthem'

If America is really the land of the free, and its anthem the soundtrack of liberty, then there may be no better time to exercise your freedom to stand up against injustice

Coincidentally, i just made a post referencing this

No elected official should be basing the spending of tax payer dollars on their personal protests. Only criteria should be what's best to purchase functionally and economically.

Swear these politicians are clout chasers of the highest degree. Bunch of children looking for their 15 minutes and likes.

Aren’t these GOP / family values folks that supported the “peaceful protests” of the law clerk in Kentucky who refused to issue marriage licenses to gay couples and supported the bakers’ rights not to make cakes for unions involving gay couples? Funny thing about the First Amendment – it doesn’t just apply to your side.
