Some might say, the First Amendment of the Constitution of the United States of America requires that freedom of lifestyle choice not be infringed upon by the Federal Government. Polygamy is a lifestyle choice. Contrary to popular belief, polygamy is usually NOT about sexual experience and it is not a sexual practice or orientation. It is a lifestyle in which multiple partners enter into an arrangement of marriage.



Others may say polygamy is a misogynist practice that lends itself to the abuse of small children and women. Polygamist leaders are notorious for cases of abuse. Kids seem to have a hard time explaining why their families are the way they are. It just does not seem right that the kids need to be subjected to this type of life.
 
Polygamy, polyandry, polyamory etc should all be legal. This is America. Freedom is supposed to be a thing here. Apparently its not.
 
And not all married people have children so the abuse thing is dumb. Plenty of children are abused in straight and gay households yet we dont talk about the marriage like thats why the people are abusive, cmon. and a lot of women are down for those kinda set ups. Especially Mormons obviously, but there's others. Its just so taboo people feel like they can't do it, when they shouldn't feel that way.

Yes. Polygamy and Polyandry should both be legal. Y shld ppl only hav the option of marrying 1 person?

Shldnt only ve polygamy tho cuz that's 1 sided n the law gotta go both ways.

Polygamy is often abusive and predatory.
What aren't you understanding?

You rarely can have one without the other.
societies have systematically evolved away from plural marriages because the social problems it creates.

Can you have a polygamous relationship that is not abusive or predatory? maybe
but in a society such as America where wealth inequality is heavily prevalent you run the risk of a few men hoarding all the women

and men of lower wealth and status acquiring women who are much younger and easily impressionable.

Because in a polygamy sense---women are now a commodity
They become a cash crop in a sense.

I believe you are generalizing all polygamy to super strict Mormon polygamy. You cant paint it all with the same brush. There are many places all over the world where polygamy is alive and well with no child abuse problems. I grew up knowing several families with more then 1 wife.

I think its somewhat impossible to have a polygamous relationship that is harmonious.

I've been in a polyamorous relationship and that shit was hard as hell to navigate. lmao

1 i've never associated polygamy with pedophilia ever....so this is 100% new information to me

It's problematic to only legalize polygamy tho, that is misogynistic. Legalize both or none.

Also, plural marriages are already happenin. Only thing is, only the 1st or principal wife gets the papers. The others r social marriages I guess.

May as well let all the spouses get the legal perks n intestacy implications
