When WWE announced their plans to return to the road yesterday, it was and wasn't a surprise to their talents. While talents were not given the heads up on the announcement or dates, it had been informally passed along in recent weeks that plans to return to the road would be forthcoming in the near future.
We are told that the company kept plans extremely close to the vest until they were announced via a press release in order to prevent leaks but also because things could have changed at any moment due to the pandemic. It is expected that many, if not all of the events, will take place in markets where COVID-19 safety rules have started to become more relaxed. The Southwest and Florida seem most likely for future events, but we've heard Iowa and Pennsylvania have been bandied about as well.
It remains to be seen if those who worked exclusively on live events who were furloughed or let go will return in any capacity. One would think that until the company is back running events at a major touring level, they will remain conservative in how they proceed.
Tickets for the first WWE return events in July in Texas will go on sale this Wednesday.
