OUT NOW Nas & DJ Premier - Light-Years

Added to Calendar: 12-12-25

This is my theory DJ Premier’s sound became so much of what the underground or hardcore sound sounded like that when you hear it now from him, it doesn’t seem as amazing to some ppl as it used to be because every Producer with an MPC copied DJ Premier

First listen, shit isnt TERRIBLE. Still better than what most rappers from nas era and on nas level is putting out.

I do see how some are disappointed though. It's definitely not a certified classic.

That NY state of mind 3 beat is absolutely horrendous though. Can't believe they both heard that shit and was like "yep this is for the album."

It sounds unfinished and the sample fucking sucks.

This shit ain't been as bad as what y'all saying.

Is it 15 straight Nas is Likes? Nah, not at all.

Some weak tracks in there. Some good ones.

I don't think there is a single bad Nas verse in there. Most are good to great.

I can't stop being amazed that he can still find things to talk about and still have bars like he does. Its incredible.

Preme is definitely the weak link in the album. Not all beats are bad. Some are good. But there's nothing incredible on the album.

Either way I think folks who are disappointed expected some Preme and Nas in the 90s level tracks. I don't blame them.

Overall, good album, not great.

Lyrics and bars are elite.

Beats are mid tier, with a few good and a few bad.

Was it worth 30 year wait? Not at all. Should have kept this as a forever what if

I just gave it my my first listen all the way through and these are my exact sentiments as well

Album was never going to live up to the hype and they probably should've done this year's ago if they were going to do it but overall this album isnt nearly as bad as people on here were making it out to be. Premier is my favorite producer and hes definitely been below par for awhile but Nas is as crisp and like you said the bars are elite.

Is it a classic? No.... but I enjoyed it, Im about to run it back and give it a second spin

Album is alright

My only expectation was for Preme to be serviceable. Wasn’t like I was expecting Prime Premo lol

Nas showed up to work lol and continues to be miles ahead of his contemporaries. It just feels like Preme’s beats drags Nas down for the most part. SOME beats are solid but overall they just weren’t working. Someone in here said some of these beats sound outdated. And I really cannot believe that NY State of Mind 3 lol other than that yeah it’s an okay album

Finally got off work…got to tha crib…rolled up…smoked….put my headphones on and pushed play fully expecting to be disappointed smh

I’m currently on My Story Your Story and I haven’t heard a song I wanna skip yet…you niggaz man I tell ya lol

This to me just off 1st listen is better than any of his joints wit’ Hitboy…that bullshit wit Ye and that last Lost Tapes….

Go argue wit’ somebody more easily influenced

I agree with most of this but them Hit boy projects are instant classic material mostly

Finally verdict after running it back… 3 out of 5. I just can’t get with most of these beats. Nasir levels of disappointment and honesty it’s even more disappointing than that. 20 years too late for this collab.
