What some black men object to is the oversimplified way that a lot of women approach the discussion of patriarchy. This whole idea that black men refuse to give up on the patriarchy in itself is bogus. Black men don't control that shit, so how are we refusing to give it up? If I as a black man disagree with the concept of abortion or rightfully point out that the gender gap is a myth, that doesn't mean I support patriarchy. That's the problem. A lot of these women think that if a black man disagrees with anything they say when it comes to their perceived oppression, then we are against them. Then they will simultaneously dismiss any and all benefits that patriarchy bestows on them. There is a reason why men tend to get harsher penalties than women for the same crimes. The same patriarchy that punishes women in some areas attempts to protect or forgive women in other areas.

These discussions are never productive and never go anywhere because no one ever wants to hear the other side. People just want to be right.

It’s cuz it provides a perfect word salad. They get out and march and protest to say black people don’t have any institutions we run and control but then turn around and say how racist whites are.

Yet

We run patriarchal systems? I think the concepts clash in their heads cuz how can we simultaneously have no power and white people run every single option they can to oppress us but wouldn’t use our infighting as a weapon of theirs? Bc this same idea is being used today when it's not relevant anymore. Nobody is building any new civilizations. Men leading was cool a million yrs ago but in our current modern society there's nothing biological that inherently qualifies a singular adult male to be at the forefront of anything just because. That's the problem ppl have with patriarchy today. It assumes unearned value in any straight man.

The problem with the bold is that it's never really been true in America. There are certainly some men that gain unearned value. However, when you factor in racism and other shit, you can't just say men are unfairly elevated. Patriarchy is why black men are so despised in this country. If a society is a patriarchy and one group wants to attack another group, who do they attack? The men. So sure, patriarchy may confer unearned value on the members of the ruling class, but it largely fucks over the men of other groups.

Again, I don't know true that is. Men are pretty expendable. It's why women weren't allowed into be in the military. The country doesn't give a shit about sending men to die, but women were never supposed to be used as cannon fodder.

It's all complicated. Yes, there most aspects of American society have a good ole boy system, but, outside of a few tokens, how many of those systems have allowed black men or other minorities to participate?

You're making my point bruh lol. Patriarchy expects ppl to play into roles whether they fit em or not. An army of men and no women is a projection of strength to others. The result is men coming home fucked up with little to no rehab/help. And STILL being expected to lead households and businesses over the women that did it in their absence. Men are used and harmed by the patriarchy as well. But there's too much privilege in it for enough of yall to wana change it.

Yall kill me cuz yall see the play with race all the time but yall miss it with gender or sexuality lol. Racism harms white ppl too but as long as white ppl perceive themselves to be at the top of the totem pole or, at the very least better than niggas, there's no incentive for them to wana do anything about it.

I'm not really sure what point you think you're making here. I've never argued that patriarchy doesn't hurt men or force roles on people. My contention with what you said before is your claim that patriarchy values men above women. It doesn't. Yes, some scenarios and circumstances within a patriarchal system benefit men over women. Some scenarios and circumstances hurt men more than women. Patriachy isn't this cookie cutter system that's all good for men and bad for women the way feminists try to paint it. It's largely bad for everyone except the people at the top. Like you pointed out, it's very similar to racism. However, I reject this claim that you seem to be making that we black men are ok with upholding the patriarchy because we're a little bit better off than black women.

Where does that happen? Outside of a few tokens and the elites, what black men are out there fighting for patriarchy? It doesn't even benefit us much. Black women are on pace to eclipse black men in pretty much every category. Black American men must be the shittiest people on the planet if we're somehow getting a leg up from patriarchy but still behind everyone else including our women.
