Seven Snipers

PRAISE: Some Director and Cinematographer team ups are absolutely outstanding. Director Sandra Sciberras and Cinematographer Andrew Conder put on quite the show in this movie about a retired elite sniper who gathers her former kill squad to protect her daughter from a ruthless warlord. It was great to see Radha Mitchell as Kris Hendricks / Voodoo Child in an action flick again, she also provides and intense, loving but stern performance. Tim Roth's portrayal of The Dragon was so cool, calm and collected especially when presenting his goal in thought it added to the intimidating build up of his character. Annabel Wolfe as Anja turns in a performance that is filled to the brim with raw emotion as moments in the past and present display why she has certain loyalties and estrangements.I almost didnt recognize Ioan Gruffudd as Milk who i also thought turned in a very good performance. Several of the characters are the best at what they do so it added to my suspense levels. The movie has all the rawness of an indie action movie. The stakes are set up nicely in a if its not one thing its another manner. I was so involved and in such high anticipation to hear a bullet to whistle through the air to break up the overwhelming tension. I enjoyed the hell out of this movie !!

PROBLEMS: I think the movie needed at least 15 more minutes to provide some more backstory for a couple of characters.

Scale of 1 to 10 an 8½

Definitely on my list of favorite movies of 2026

Disclosure Day

PRAISE: Steven Spielberg returns to the genre in which he has had multiple successes in this movie about a cybersecurity whistleblower and a meteorologist as they uncover an 80-year government conspiracy to conceal the existence of aliens. The actors in the movie including:Josh O’Connor as Daniel Kellner,Colin Firth as Noah Scanlon,,Eve Hewson as Jane Blakenship, Colman Domingo as Hugo Wakefield and Wyatt Russell as Jackson but Emily Blunt is the standout as Margaret Fairchild. She is a person who is seeking more out of life and is looking for a grander purpose and Blunt plays her to a T with each new discovery she makes. Spielberg still has that skilled eye whether its a well stacked action sequence or the simplicity of a scene with something that either provokes raw emotion or wonder. I liked when the film pointed out even though humanity and caring can be buried by grief its that same grief along with human connection that can dig it up. I liked the question of why did God create such a vast universe? Its a question i and others asked, especially when i was a part of organized religion . The team up of Spielberg and composer John Williams still stirs the soul. I liked the inclusion of recent statements from Air Force and Naval officers not being able to explain away possible UFO sightings.

PROBLEMS: There were some plot holes that are beyond obvious. The script finds a way to make things more complicated even though something is presented showing an easier way to get from point A to B. I had some frustrations with unexplained parts of the story. Even with all of the advancements in AI and CGI some of the scenes with the aforementioned looked pretty bad....oh except for a cardinal. Its funny but even with a 2 hour and 25 minute run time it felt like the movie ended abruptly. All i could think of was well this is what the audience and I have been waiting for why stop now ?!? This movie always felt like it was on the verge of being a moving and involving experience but it never gets there.

Kraken

I have always admired movies like this, doing a lot with a small budget. The story is basically about a marine biologist named Johanne. She investigates a series of brutal deaths and unnatural behavior in wild salmon but discovers something else lies beneath. The movie is sprinkled with good performances and the SFX and CGI work well in key action sequences and here and there gory moments. What's missing is more backstory. The script only hints at a bigger connection between a couple of characters. There wasn't enough action or carnage for me. The movie has its impressive parts and is shot well but it lacks in so many other areas that its summed up to just a basic watch.

DEATH OF ROBIN HOOD

Hugh Jackman does the Old Man Robin Hood thing in this movie about Robin Hood grappling with his past after a life of crime and heroism catches up with him. Jackman turns in a weathered, weary and intense performance. He is in denial of being a legendary hero and proves his brutality in a couple of shocking scenes. He portrays Robin as a man seeking exoneration and it works when he's connected to people from his past and present including prioress (Jodie Comer) I did like the visual nods to prior Robin Hood stories.Haunting and brutal imagery makes the first half very involving. The bleakness works for awhile and goes hand in hand with Robin's psyche. I did enjoy the alternate universe this is how it really was vibe.

PROBLEMS :The second half was tough to get through. Watching a clip of the movie earlier this week i got the feeling the pacing would be an issue for me and it definitely is at a crawls pace throughout the movie with dwelling scenes of intense glares and silent moments laced with mournful music.

Citizen Vigilante

Another bad movie that reminds me of the C and D level movies i would happen upon in the old days of Showtime and The Movie Channel. Armie Hammer is supposed to be a Vigilante but there are only a few times I could get on board with what he was doing. The movie is very preachy about the ills of society and the government. Watching it i felt like I had been sold a car with no engine. So many long drawn out scenes of what I didn't sign up for. The violence was so cartoonish all i could say was are you kidding me? There's not even a good build up to what the character is doing he's just all over the place just like the script. The character is a walking contradiction and then some. Then there's the racism and pro anti migrant portions of the movie. So many repetitive and padded scenes. Uwe Boll once again proves he's a terrible storyteller. People looking for a revenge/vigilante flick are better off watching all....yes all of the Death Wish movies.
