I Know What You Did Last Summer 2025

PRAISE: Even as I sat down to watch this movie I couldn't help but think is this third film really necessary? But curiosity was still present and I was in the mood for a slasher movie. Its basically the same set up of a handful of friends trying to cover up their involvement in a deadly accident. I do appreciate the movie changing things up a bit. Also the personalities of some of the characters are likeable. Tyler Trevino, (Gabbriette Bechtel) a crime podcaster was the most fun and I enjoyed her time on screen. The other characters that include: Danica (Madelyn Cline), Ava (Chase Sui Wonders), Stevie (Sarah Pidgeon), Milo (Jonah Hauer-King), and Teddy (Tyriq Withers) are ok for what's given to them to do. There are about three good kills in the movie. The characters of Ray Bronson (Freddy Prinze Jr.) and Julie James (Jennifer Love Hewitt),are in and out of the movie. I did enjoy some of their banter and one liners to each other. I liked some of the call backs that were weaved into the movie.

PROBLEMS: There is a bland basic feel to this movie that's supposed to be exciting. The writers try to insert some comedy that definitely doesn't work at times and comes off ultra cheesy right to the end. The moves a couple of characters make made no sense at at all. Especially with one character i laughed unintentionally because if the character can do one thing why couldn't they have done another? I know trauma can tear things apart in someone's life but I feel something important between two characters wasn't explained. Far too silly moments that dont add up.

Eddington

PRAISE: It was impossible to not find this movies first half very involving. The film takes place in 2020 likely a month or two into the Covid pandemic. Everyone went through it and everything that came along with it in that time frame. Black lives Matter,to wear a mask or not to,are my writes being taken away. Intertwine all of the aforementioned to the story about the escalating conflict between the town's sheriff, Joe Cross, and the liberal mayor, Ted Garcia, as they become figureheads in a town divided by fear and distrust. All of the actors including Joaquin Phoenix as Sheriff Joe Cross. Pedro Pascal as Ted Garcia, Emma Stone as Louise Cross. Austin Butler as Vernon Jefferson. Deirdre O’Connell as Dawn and Amélie Hoeferle as Sarah do a great job including their roles. In that first half I was starting to feel bad for Joe who is dealing with the instability of his marriage and a mother in law who makes it her priority to put him down. I liked where the story was going especially when Joe and Ted butt heads about mask mandates and the growing tension that was continuing on a downward spiral. At times the movie is darkly humorous and I found myself shaking my head but simultaneously laughing. The movie plays with a lot of subjects, dealing with trauma, false sincerity, and people showing their true prejudices. All of this is bundled into a small New Mexico town and all of the cliches that come with it which i also enjoyed. The Viral culture which now envelopes the world is also a big factor in the film which was very relatable. It also displays the ugliness of politics and using false narratives to get ahead in politics. I didn't feel like the movie took certain topics and exploited them or showed any disrespect to them.I should have known what was coming in the second half due to what the writer/director of “Hereditary,” “Midsommar ,Ari Aster has come up with in those films.

PROBLEMS: I thought the second half was jarring and a bit over the top. Everything about the first half seemed to feel a bit diluted once some crazy situations started to develop. I think parts of the third act may have worked better for me if there had been a better build up for a character and how adamant a character was about certain social issues. Sure a character was dealing with a good amount of disrespect but I just couldn't get on board with how sudden it felt.

Fantastic Four: First Steps

PRAISE: Looking back at all of the Fantastic Four movies from the Roger Corman produced 1994 version to the terrible 2015 version Fantastic Four: First Steps is the best of them all for various reasons (even though i found a lot to like in 2007's Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer). When a comic book movies writers (Josh Friedman and Eric Pearson and Jeff Kaplan & Ian Springer) actually do their homework for the characters presented in the movie it makes for a very enjoyable experience. The story for the four this time around revolves around them taking on Galactus and his herald Silver Surfer Shalla-Bal with stakes rising throughout the movie. The cast does a great job of fleshing out the hero's including Reed "Mr. Fantastic" Richards (Pedro Pascal); his wife, Sue "Invisible Woman" Storm (Vanessa Kirby); her brother, Johnny "Human Torch" Storm (Joseph Quinn); and Reed's best friend, Ben "The Thing" Grimm (Ebon Moss-Bachrach). Reed always measuring situations ...even joyous ones with a scientific approach. Sue is loving and caring but tough when she needs to be. Johnny is eager, helpful and humorous. Grimm has a bit of a sad aura but never let's it truly get him down and he's always encouraging. The movie couples all of the aforementioned with how they all interact as a team and a family and it is a pleasure to watch and listen to. Silver Surfer (Julia Garner) looks better on the big screen. I could actually see her features.I also started to see why they went with the Shalla-Bal version of the surfer instead of Norrin Radd. Then there's World Devourer Galactus (Ralph Ineson) the two make an intimidating pair in some truly standout action sequences but at times all Galactus has to do is talk and display a brush you off and you are beneath me attitude. With incredible looking journey through space action sequences coupled with moments that truly stack the decks i definitely felt enveloped in a fun adventure. The 1960s-inspired, retro-futuristic world worked for me. Thankfully most of the ultra serious moments werent followed by jokes or quips. There are a lot of great call backs to iconic moments in the FF comics and animated series. Unfunny moments in the movie dont last long. The movie hits the right notes from a quiet conversation to scenes that displays the powers of the FF. The end credits scene makes me look forward to the future of the four.

PROBLEMS: The movie needed at least 15 more minutes to flesh out the characters a bit more. I couldnt go along with a decision a character made. Also something didnt ring true for me when a characters judgement and assumptions made of a another was definitely forced and made no sense. Which was later followed by a well we are doing what you were judging me about sequence. The CGI was a bit off here and there. Some moments were a bit clunky.

Osiris

PRAISE: Twenty minutes into this movie about Special Forces commandos who are abducted mid-operation by a mysterious spacecraft then things just get stranger and dangerous for them,I could tell writers William Kaufman and Paul Reichelt are huge fans of the movies Aliens and Predator. This was a good and a bad thing. They do manage to sprinkle in some original ingredients to what they borrow from the aforementioned movies. The actor who portrays Nash, Linds Edwards was pretty funny. Theres a lot of fun to be had as the Commandos display panic, fear and do their best to face the aliens. There were a few good action sequences one really stood out that had a great overhead shot of the action. I was shocked out how good some of the production was in the movie.

PROBLEMS: No real suspenseful moments are present. The movie mainly plays out in predictable ways. I can just see Linda Hamilton putting her feet up on the desks of the films multiple producers and saying: How much will my easy paycheck be for this movie? The aliens designs look like a cross between the aliens of Galaxy Quest and the talking plant from Little Shop of Horrors. I could definitely tell where the studio decided to trim the film so they could put more money into the CGI and sets.

TOGETHER (2025)

PRAISE: ♬ ♯ 𝄞 I'm stuck on you
Been a fool too long I guess it's time for me to come on home.Guess I'm on my way.So hard to see that a woman like you could wait around for a man like me
Guess I'm on my way,Mighty glad you stayed. ♬ ♯ 𝄞 These lyrics played in my mind several times while watching this movie which is about a move to the countryside already testing the limits of a couple's relationship then something that is altering and then some begins to enter their lives. There is such a good foundation that is set up for what's to come in the movies first fifteen minutes. The movie captures all of the we've been together for awhile as a couple vibes which is infused into some key scenes in the movie. Dave Franco and Alison Brie, do great as Tim and Millie ,displaying great chemistry and yes i know they are married in real life but it's fun to watch them play off each other throughout the movie. With frustrations of every kind, dissapointmets and facing the horror that envelopes them. As Jamie, Millies co worker Damon Herriman once again proves how great he is as a versatile actor. The trippy and haunting visuals made me cringe. One standout moment made me think well that was cool and intimidating but now I'm beyond dizzy. The body horror goes to crazy levels and I was partially amused and horrified by most of them. Most of the dark humor worked for me. I admire how writer and Director Michael Shanks formed an involving moving by taking an idea from something very simplistic. Also the set design was great especially in several of the forest scenes.

PROBLEMS: The shifts in tone were jarring at times. A few moments went down very predictable paths.

The Naked Gun (2025)

PRAISE: Thirty one years after the last Naked Gun movie this follow up to the original trilogy returns with a movie that is slap your knee funny. The story is about Frank Drebin Jr., a Police Squad copper trying to fill his cop father's shoes. Liam Neeson as Drebin gets to poke fun at his tough guy persona and characters he has built up over the years. He handles deadpan jokes with ease as if he's been doing it for years. Equally funny is Pamela Anderson as Beth Davenport . She and Neeson have great chemistry and she's given a few moments to shine. Also on board to provide some very funny moments are Cast: Paul Walter Hauser, Kevin Durand, Danny Huston, and CCH Pounder. Director Akiva Schaffer and writers Dan Gregor and Doug Mand want to make this new version of the Naked Gun their own thing but they definitely pay tribute to the movies core creators Zucker-Abrams-Zucker. I couldn't take my eyes off the screen for a second because I would have likely missed one of the many hilarious sight gags. There are great nods to spy and detective films of the past. From the smallest pop culture reference to big winks to the audience about what everyone goes through on a daily basis it really worked for me. Staying for the closing credits scene is a must.

PROBLEMS: Some of the gags are predictable. Theres one gag that was extremely repetitive. I thought some of the characters were short changed. Speaking of short the run time for the movie was shockingly short.

War of The World's 2025

I remember the sensation The Blair Witch movie caused globally but I also remember a lot of the found footage,POV shot movies that tried to stir up as much buzz as TBW completely failing. This version of the War of the World's almost completely relies on POV. The plot Ice Cube portrays Will Radford, a surveillance and threat assessment expert at the Department of Homeland Security. Trying to keep an eye on his family and an alien invasion simultaneously. The acting in the movie is lifeless no enthusiasm from any actors in this flick. I laughed when Cube was staring at his computer screen in disbelief and anger. Plus when he yelled out lines that I guess we're supposed inspire laughter or cheers it was unintentionally funny. The freeze frames and attacks were also very funny. I can understand a father's concern for a child but Radford goes so overboard with the surveillance of his daughter it's cringey and creepy. Cube knows he's getting an easy paycheck probably why he smirks throughout the flick. Only three times does the CGI and SFX look decent in the movie. Some cool tech is presented and I said hmmm that would come in handy during a major crisis. After that small amount of highlights what follows is blatant Amazon product promotion, the military not even trying to be covert even when they know the aliens have an advantage, lack of common sense or characters thinking others don't have common sense, unnecessary and silly actions from the character. I spent about four minutes trying to figure out why a character set something up. The writers forget what they established fifteen minutes before in the flick. The nods in the movie only reminded me of all of the great sci fi films that are actually not a chore to sit through.

BAMBI THE RECKONING

I like the way these fractured fairy tales and demented versions of very well known cartoon characters open. Sure it's the studio behind these flicks saving money but I like the animated story book approach and it also answers the question i had about this horrifying version of Bambi. Most of the characters in the movie are unlikeable so I couldn't wait for Bambi to take them out. There are some great and funny kills. I'm so glad the trailer held back on showing a few unexpected things because those scenes were so much fun. Bambi going afrer people in unique ways was extremely funny.Actress Roxanne McKee is quite stunning. The CGI is really bad at times and there's not much to the family in turmoil story.
