We are discussing the real world, I’m just putting the onus on the people (police) that did a poor job of defusing the situation.

That's fine, but you're basically suggesting that they will be able to defuse every situation, and that's not realistic. I believe the police acted poorly at points in this confrontation, but I also don't see where the guy in this case was giving them a peaceful option. Maybe he was more reasonable before the cam came on, but while it was rolling, he was basically intractable.

They should defuse most situations however if they can’t then they have no business being police officers.
