Like other pro sports leagues, the WNBA is a business. At their base, the goal of every business is to make a profit.
Former NBA commissioner David Stern founded the WNBA in the spring of 1996. The first season began a year later with the league consisting of 12 teams based in the United States.

Over the next 25 years, the league has seen minimal growth. Despite countless talented women coming about during its time, it just can't seem to get off the ground.

Since there has been minimal growth since its birth, many wonder if the league brings in any money. The answer to that question is no.

Back in 2018, current NBA commissioner Adam Silver spoke on the league's financial outlook. He cited that the WNBA has never once turned a profit. The league loses roughly 10 million dollars a year and lost close to $12 million in 2017.

The "W" in WNBA stands for Welfare. They've been subsidised since day 1 of their existence and 25 years later, still sucking the teet off the mother franchise that is the NBA.

Only one way to make their sport interesting...
Don't watch either so I was surprised by this
. Not only does the NBA have more than double the number of teams, but they play a far greater number of games during the year.
Have they discussed expanding the number of games and/or teams?

They're not profitable

Why would the NBA owners add more debit. Also they got rid of teams in the last 10 years or so.

The WNBA would have to start turning a profit and do it consistently before they expand again.

I think what makes this conversation so interesting that it’s a microcosm for the dishonesty that a lot of people have to walk around spewing when it comes out to male and female dynamics. They’re really is no legitimate, nor is there a logical explanation as to why the women should get paid more money, other than jealousy, and them not minding their business. You can validate why NBA players should get more money, but what’s the validation in terms of the women? It’s based strictly on them thinking, comparatively by using the NBA as a measure for what they should get.

So now we have to consistently have the same reoccurring themes, because the men don’t have it in them to tell women the truth, and when you do get someone like a Michael Porter Junior or a Draymond Green that does speak with a level of truth, because they had so many men lie to them, nothing truly happens, other than those men who do speak up are seen as misogynistic, so they go back to saying never mind. I’m not gonna help the women.

What makes it the most interesting, is that these women are literally being given money by the same type of men that they talk down to. Listening to Dee Brown’s daughter speak with Gilbert Arenas about this case is what makes it the funniest. She’s literally dismissing what men are saying not because its wrong, but because they’re using the same mindset that they are against when speaking on men, they claim that men use misogyny as the main motivating factor in the points that they make, when speaking on the WNBA, but they don’t take it to account that they do the same thing when it comes down to their analysis of men when we speak with a certain level of confidence and understanding. They’ll say oh you just hate women, or nobody forcing you to watch the game, or you’re just an idiot. Illogical fallacies. What they don’t understand, is that you need individuals that cover a wide array of different angles as far as participants of your sport. You need people that are super gregarious like Magic Johnson, or Shaquille O’Neal. You need individuals that are Stoic like Kawhi Leonard. You need intense players like Kobe Bryant and Michael. You need individuals that are the face of the league. I don’t think you run into too many women who are willing to pour into the league the way that they’re supposed to, because they think that it’s beneath them to do so. Which is unfortunate
