Welcome To aBlackWeb

Well maybe the perception of reality is the wrong way to phrase it, but his reality warping is heavily nerfed compared to what you see in the comics. In every case of him using the Reality Stone, the effects went back to normal as soon as he left. Even with the other stones helping out, there is nothing that says that the effects would be permanent in the way you'd need to create resources out of nothing.

The answer could also be that, in those occasions, Thanos simply chose not to make the changes permanent. He's Thanos. He does isht like that.

You've taken an assumption on the limits of the reality stone and are running with it like a stated fact.

I agree with Lonious Monk.

Maybe that's a thread I'll make at the cool table, but as the saying goes, perception is reality. From what I can tell, the reality stone can manipulate the perception of anyone the user wants, including the user itself.

So maybe in that moment, Thanos manipulated the perception of reality of everyone, including himself. So when Starlord tried to shoot Gamora, Thanos manipulated the reality as they saw it. The bubbles were as real as Thanos wanted them to be, even if only temporarily so.

ehhhhh...the space stone aint change his perception of space and magically transport that nigga across the galaxy. it transported him from one place to another.. just like time.. it aint fuck with everyones perception of time.. it reversed time and allowed him to grab the mind stone. Same shit would logically apply to the reality stone.. it aint perception.. its real... for as long as the user of the gauntlet wants it to be

Well space and time are more tangible verifiable concepts than reality itself. The distance or space between two things can be measured, as can the time between two times.

Reality is a more fluid concept depending on whose perspective is being accounted for.

Well actually... I don't feel like getting into an entire thesis but time and space are very much perceptive. That ends up getting into physics but all in all was broken down into layman's very well in the movie Interstellar. The concepts of wormholes, warp speed, etc. are all further explorations into the concept.

We're all making assumptions. The difference is that my assumptions are based on what we actually saw. The assumption that Thanos could just create resources from nothing is based on...nothing.

I gave you three examples of reality changing and not just perception. And as Inori brought up in the other thread, he erased half the population of the universe. Or was their perception of existing just altered? And they didn't actually disintegrate?

You believe that the movie showed the reality stone as limited. I just don't see it.

That's not what I was talking about. I was talking about the fact that we didn't see any permanent changes and we didn't see him create something from nothing.

And killing half the population was probably not the work of the Reality Stone. It was more likely the work of the Soul Stone.

We saw dude create a whole scenario on Knowhere where people interacted with the entire environment
We saw dude turn bullets into bubbles to prevent someone from being killed
We saw dude turn a knife into bubble to prevent someone being killed

how is this a debate?

So now it's not about just altering perception instead of reality and just about the fact that the changes weren't permanent. And you conveniently give the credit for the erasure of half the universe to another stone. If they weren't erased from reality, why'd they disintegrate? If your soul is removed, your body remains, right?

And you never touched on Inori's point that the rest of the infinity stones control their namesake but we're to believe that the reality stone is somehow different?

We'll just have to agree to disagree.

I'm not really sure what you're trying to say here. I said like three or four posts ago that it was wrong of me to say the stone only altered the perception of reality so I'm not sure why you keep harping on that. And no one is arguing that the Reality Stone doesn't affect Reality. My point is that it, like all the other stones is nerfed compared to the comic counterparts. At no point in the movie do we ever see Thanos permanently alter Reality, so there is nothing that definitively proves that Thanos could do something like create resources from nothing.

And there is nothing convenient about me saying the Soul Stone was the primary stone responsible for all those deaths. Of all the stones, it's the Soul stone that is closely related to control of life and death. It's a moot point though because none of the stones were solely responsible for the snap. They all played a part. That was the whole point.

my whole argument was that

1) when the reality stone was introduced... the dark elves wanted to bring darkness back to the universe... safe to say we can assume that things wouldn't revert back to regular shit when they stopped thinking about it..establishing permanence.. not just a temporary change

2) you keep saying creating resources from nothing... what in a bullet or a knife can make a bubble? lol so that leads us to believe with the reality stone you can transform one thing... to another thing

thats all i got.. lol i'll argue wit yall tomorrow lol

1) But the elves never did any of that. You can't say they established permanence based on desire.

2) Changing a bullet to a bubble is just matter manipulation. It's not even really reality warping although that's what they're playing it as. And if you want to say that they wouldn't create the resources out of nothing, but would change mundane matter into resources (i.e. dirt to food) that's fine. However, permanence still hasn't been established.

All this is kinda beside the point with me though. That's not really my major argument against that line of thinking. Thanos didn't go for that idea because that's not what was in his head. He had a methodology in mind before he knew about the stones and gathered the stones to carry out that methodology. It's just that simple. Again, he didn't really have time to reflect on whether there was another option. He got the completed gauntlet and it was basically do or die time.

I don't understand why you all are making a simple concept difficult. Duke said it can't create something from nothing.

Erasure is not the same as creation. Bringing darkness to the universe equates to the erasure of light not the creation of darkness.
Turning a bullet into a bubble is to change the reality of that bullet--ie. REPLACE a bullet with a bubble. Not to create a bubble from nothing. If you're to create these resources, to provide for the entirety of the universe from what is already a finite well of supplies, then that DOES NOT/WOULD NOT solve your problem.

Thus Thanos' rationale.
