We told Goldie this and he was like, that's stupid, why would you turn in songs you know are bad

SMH

Nah. The original Lasers is probably songs like I'm Beamin', Go To Sleep, Lasers, Shining Down... It probably wouldn't be a low point of his career. That would be that wack ass Drogas Light.

I'm talking about the one he actually submitted, not what should've been

He has a good point tho, a bunch of us came at Lupe for that when he did it with Drogas on the IC. That's bad business and a slap in the face to fans. Seems like a cop out to say "hey I purposely made a shitty album for the label and fans". That's the only music fans are gonna hear from you for a while and if Im another label I would be less reluctant to want to deal with Lupe or sign him because of that.

Lasers is actually his best charting album too and performed well sales wise because people believed in the project enough to put marketing dollars behind it. It could have revitalized his career in mainstream and given him a bargaining chip to go to another label on his terms SMMFH.

Nah, I'm not letting them niggas eat anymore off he than they already are

The real fans still supported the projects out of love but it's a catch 22. Release it the way you intend and it blows, the label eats off it and you run the risk if alienated fans but on the flip side, after multiple push backs, fuck the label. I hope they don't recoup shit

The label wasn't gonna put out the stuff that he wanted. It's well documented that he's had strife with Atlantic since the beginning. They never understood him or his music. And until @Judge Judah posted that video, I couldn't figure out why he signed with them in the first place.

I agree with the sentiment that it is a slap in the face to your fans. But it's also the type of shit that wack ass label probably wanted.

I hate that two of my favorite artists (Budden and Lupe) were deprived of full creative control and/or the backing of their label for most of their careers. They both did well without 'em, but they would've done even better with them.

I understand ya pain of having Lupe and Budden as 2 of your favorites my nigga...I’m a fan of Lebron and Barkley...I never get a moments peace

Barkley annoys me and has an uglass white bitch for a wife. He's also given ammo to racist bastards to shit on the community. Fuck that nigga. All that shit overrides his NBA prowess, in my mind.

Lebron, on the other hand, is a hometown nigga, has multiple championships, and is, by far, the best role model superstar the NBA has ever known. People who hate on him for stupid reasons are revisionists or have a Kobe/Jordan dick in their mouths.

I rest my case lmao

Lupe did it to his new label too with DROGAS tho. Imagine Water you sign your favorite artist and they pull shit like that. You'd be disappointed AF especially being a smaller company with a smaller budget hoping to bank off Lupe and his talent.

I think with Lupe and Joe they weren't good at business as well as them being the types to get in their own way. Joe not the easiest person to work with according to industry cats. Might be the rap Sinead O'Connor.... Plenty of talent but can't straighten Himself out. Lupe on the other hand I think needs a good manager but I think cuz he's a vet he'd never go for it.

I think Drogas Wave is the first album that he's been indie. He's been on Atlantic for everything else.

I do agree that both of them get in their own way though. Same with Wale. All of them have the talent. They're intelligent dudes (for the most part), but they think they're smarter than what they are, and they're arrogant to the point they can't compromise or see things from anyone else's pov.

*shrugs* They'd probably argue that they shouldn't have to.

@Sion NVM. You're right. I don't know why he'd put out that wack shit if he didn't have to. I thought he still had contractual obligations with Atlantic.

Just cleared 2 hours listened to this album and idk man the bars are there but not really feeling the production in this....King Nas tho
