Fellow Wavers

I started this amazing project this morning omw to work. Just finished Haile Selassie.

Not gon lie, Drogas had me thinking i d/l the spanish version or something LMAO

Wav files is simply remarkable. Lupe switched up the flow for a few of these beats which has always been a knock on him that he keeps the same flow no matter the beat, but man...he is in his bag on these tracks

Im definitely gonna be running Wav files back a few times today

Didnt realize crystal Torres has been playing in the band that's been with the On the Run 2 tour...this chick is talented af!!

Whoever asked about the origin of Alan...

DROGAS WAVE’s bright spots are also when Lupe reimagines his impeccable storytelling abilities. On both “Alan Forever” and “Jonylah Forever,” two tracks worthy of finding a home in the pantheon of Lupe’s music, Lupe creates two distinct alternate realities for his main characters, Alan and Jonylah. Alan Kurdi, a three-year-old Syrian refugee who was infamously found dead on a Turkish shoreline, and Jonylah Watkins, a six-month-old girl killed by in a senseless Chicago gang murder, are the main characters of their respective tracks, and in each Lupe attempts to reimagine their life paths had they not died.

Idk

to me, it almost sounded like what you'd hear watchin a movie scene of a slave ship.. seein folks cramped in like sardines w/ filthy inhumane treatment, being thrown (& sum cases jumpin) overboard, etc.

jus a somber tone
That's exactly what I got. It sounded like someone was drowning. And as they suffocated/drowned the notes got sharper, as to indicate one's last breaths

I just sat and really listened to that interlude cuz of you. Lol. But it's actually telling a story.

I play the alto saxophone, and have since the 5th grade. In high school I was routinely asked to do solos and I learned how to convey emotion and storytelling through the music. That's what that interlude is. It's a story of this particular slave ship that sunk.

The ship and the slaves were alluded to in Manila and Gold Vs. The Right... In the beginning, it's this ominous and somber tone. Picture yourself crammed in a hull, not knowing what's about to happen and shackled and scared.

Then the violin starts getting chaotic. Like frantic and disheveled. And then it starts making that trademark sound effect of something falling -- or sinking, in this case. And it comes to a close with a melancholy reluctance. Like an acceptance of your fate. It's also a great segue into the next two songs as well.

So, thanks for that. Making me analyze a violin instrumental. Lol.
