Welcome To aBlackWeb

Let's talk about how "Eastcoast Bias" was never real

Yo, I think all these acts like E 40, Too Short, Outkast, Geto Boys had a following throughout the country but didnt really crack that Northeast market, so them and they're fans started to coin that phrase. They bring up that Outkast video at the source awards, but Outkast said it themselves the previous time performing in NYC they didnt get booed. Crazy cause Fat Joe got booed in L.A and I only heard him speak on it once.

I always say the most bias mofo's are the quickest to claim Eastcoast bias.

this guy gets it.

Back in the day I would always hear there's a Eastcoast Bias but in reality there never really was a bias coming out of the Eastcoast and the real bias was coming from The South, West and Midwest areas.

Let me explain...........without question the biggest selling albums ever in hiphop came from the South, Midwest and Westcoast. Outkast diamond, Bone Thugs, diamond, Pac diamond, Nelly diamond, Vanilla Ice diamond, Hammer Diamond, Eminem diamond. Most platinum albums come from those same regions as well.

Best duo Outkast

Best region to put out artist South

Best movies Westcoast

Best hustlers South

Considered the GOAT Pac (repped westcoast)

Richest rapper Kanye/ Dre

Best producer Dre

The NY/Eastcoast started hiphop true and everyone was used to the Eastcoast flow for years so everyone (not eastcoast) would flock to NY to perform but at the time the mainstream rappers pushed out to the masses came from NY but that fizzed out in the early 90's. Hiphop started in the 70's so Eastcoast reign was short to say the least.

If anything it's been a bias against NY(eastcoast) for the last 30+ yrs and this is coming from a nigga from the South

Aint you from North Carolina? Who get more respect there Petey Pable or J Cole ? And we know who actually sound southern here

Without fucking question Petey Pablo lol and the reason why Pablo raps style is more southern based. J. Cole left NC got put on in NY(he still repped NC to the fullest) Cole is 1000x more popular without question.

again pop vs "real" hiphop

Ol hits blunt let me go back in time head ass nigga
:hahaha:

Again, people from NYC (artists, DJs, execs) have all admitted to being biased against anything coming from outside of NYC early on. Stop gaslighting. Ya'll niggas are literally the only people saying this. Even the people who lived through it don't believe it.

Ya'll are making it seem like the term "Eastcoast bias" means that nobody in NYC liked anything outside of NYC. That's not what people are talking about when they use that term.

It was and still is East Coast bias!
Especially New Yorkers, they shitted on anything other than NY hip hop.
They called West Coast jheri curl country rap and said The South was country bama rap. They still to this day make it seem like NY is the only place "real niggas" come from but, they always end up moving down south or in Cali.

When people talk about the east coast bias they're not talking popularity but the actual opinion that some on the east had that anything not coming out of NY wasn't real hip hop. Southern rappers mastered the independent market so they could give a fuck about being popular but looking down on Southern rappers as not being as intricate or nice simply cuz they're from the south was and still is a thing because people in general view southerners as less educated

another biased poster making my point

name one popular Eastcoast/NY rapper in the top 5 on the radio or selling right now........don't worry i'll wait.

also don't say Nas or Jay because they transcend this talk because they're legends

Are or were they being biased or they didnt like it? A lotta people equate not liking something to being bias when it comes to the Eastcoast

So when someone from outside the east has that same opinon are they being biased? I seen some Cali cats and Midwest cats have those some views but I dont see the uproar. And I have yet to hear anybody sleep on someone with skills just because where they're from. Niggas would say the same thing a lot of us say about Eminem. Yes he can rap but I dont rock with his music

Are or were they being biased or they didnt like it?

They admit to not even giving other stuff a chance. I can't even count how many times I've heard someone from NYC something like "I didn't even know how good <insert artist> was until a few years later because I wasn't checking for anyone outside of NYC."

Cats keep bringing up the fact that rap was born in NYC. We know that. And that early feeling a lot of people had in NYC that if it didn't come from the area it ain't really Hip Hop is what lead to a bias existing.

When the music is being dismissed not because of quality but because "we don't listen to that country bamma shit" then that's a bias. The music wasn't being dismissed on the quality or lack there of. It was being dismissed because anything not from NY wasn't seen as real hip hop for a long ass time to east coast people

dude............that same thing can be said for whomever in any other region. Besides the IC I never knew anyone who listened to Bone. Niggas I know who even knew of Bone was because of Crossroads, and the joints with Big and Pac
