She leaves 5 years and two months in.
Janet Jackson and her husband Wissam Al Mana are calling it quits. The music superstar and the Qatari businessman welcomed their first child, a boy they named Eissa Al Mana just this last January.
The news was first reported by The Mail and a source told them "They're both busy people but determined to be good parents, even if they're apart. It's amicable and Eissa will stay with his mother, who is basing herself in London."
Jackson and Al Mana have kept their relationship quiet for the most part since meeting at a hotel opening in 2010 and splitting their time since between Dubai and Qatar.
When her baby was born, a source told E! News that "Janet and her baby are doing well. She has hired help at home and her husband been with her through it all. It was a difficult pregnancy but she is very blessed and has a healthy baby. She has great doctors. A select few have seen her baby. She is so excited to be a mom."
It seems as though the split might have something to do with the latest allegations of elder abuse against Trent Lamar Jackson. Al Mana's lack of concern over the allegations was the last straw.
"That's when Janet made her decision that there was no turning back," a source said. "She was worried about her mother—and Wissam showed little to no concern."
Cynics may look at the timing of Eissa’s arrival and the break-up of her marriage and wonder if Janet stuck it out simply so she could achieve her dream of motherhood.
Others have pointed to the rumoured pre-nuptial agreement between the couple, reputed to involve a £400 million payout to Janet if the marriage broke up after five years. Neither party has yet filed for divorce, but the fact that around five years have passed is nonetheless intriguing.
Whatever the truth about the break-up, fans are already wondering whether it may signal a return to the Janet they know and love.
One thing’s for sure: she hasn’t lost it. Her most recent album, Unbreakable, the first since 2008, went straight into the U.S. charts at No 1 — another bone of contention, perhaps, for her seriously-minded husband.
With him out of the picture, there is no telling what Janet’s next reinvention may be.
