Reading is underrated. I once heard in a rap that people don’t know how to converse unless it about Politics, Religion or Sex. Reading opens the mind and widens your palette of conversation. Everyone needs the ability to gain esoteric knowledge and spread something to others who don’t know.... reading is necessary

...y’all wanna know what I read about the water we use on a day to day basis?

I'm not saying knowing HOW to read is overrated, I'm talking about doing it as a hobby.


I know women who are impressed when a guy says he likes to read or when somebody says they just read a novel it comes off as if they're somewhat smart.


But in 2019 is reading really that necessary? Is someone who watches documentaries , interviews, etc to research a subject any less smart or informed than someone else who read the book that the doc summed up in 20 mins?​

I like books but love movies


Im very busy man thats married and now with 2 boys so its hard for me to finish a damn book
 
Reading engages the mind and youre more likely to recall what you've learned as compared to getting the info from movies, TV, or even podcasts.

It's more popular because it's easier to digest. Watching is passive reading is active. That's all.

The last part is actually a thing. Word to all the sexually dysfunctional niggas who's standards of sex are unattainable because of porn. There imagination was greater then the act.
 
And all this is coming from a dyslexic nigga that rarely reads books, but I cannot deny their power.

Rather read recipes than to taste it.

Rather read about a car crash, than to see it....

Meh...not really.

I mean from your example, if a guy tells a woman he reads novels...in her eyes he'd be considered a "cultured" brotha. Watchin a documentary about the same novel, I guess would be considered "lazy" in some eyes. You didn't wanna take the time and mental capacity to read the book, so you took the easy way out.

Reading a book doesn't make you any more intelligent than someone who watches documentaries. Some folks like to read. Others like myself, are more visual. I wanna see what's being discussed

lol i never read the book, i only heard through posts on here and vids on youtube that certain parts were changed, left out or added. This thread isn't specifically about GOT or even about movies. I was actually thinking about the difference between books and tv in a learning capacity.

Either way, i'll much rather see a car crash or see somebody getting their ass beat than to read about it.

Yall niggas can read about a boxing match, i'm sure the writer would cook up some dope ass imagery, but at the end of the time, watching it>>>>.
 
its just the most "classic" and respected form of entertaining or informing

it came before everything else and is the only reason we know so much about the past

so its got this extra buzz around it that gets some people going

i dont think its overrated, it just stands apart

In your examples you are taking about instructional reading. Instructions are meant to be performed.

We are taking about informative/entertainment reading.
