it’s so strange because this instrument only appears in places with large enslaved African populations with the oldest extant Banjo being from Suriname.

it’s strange to think that musical innovations made possible by the banjo like Ragtime. Jazz and Mississippi Delta Blues could have been mistakenly attributed to the extension/holdover of African percussion(Tribal drum kits that the beat machines of the 70s emulates) string (Banjo) nd vocal (Griot/Chantwell) traditions.

But then that would mean Hip Hop is African and is the latest in a line of African musical expression.
