Sometimes being the hero means saving the villain.
Money is the only metric we can accurately measure success. Greatness is always going to be subjective.. You may not consider something that made money greatMoney doesn't equate to greatness.
I've been posting this quote since the IC, and it's still relevant today as ever:
"Just because you've sold millions of records doesn't mean you’re good. McDonald’s sells a lot of hamburgers.” - Ahmet Ertegun, founder of Atlantic Records.
The money don't mean shit, it just means they found an audience willing to watch their bullshit. The vast majority of these folks on TikTok will be forgotten in a few years as people get older and move on to the next mindless bit of "content" their algorithm sends their way.
But if someone else considers it great, the least we can do is acknowledge that it's profitable even if we don't like it.
And it sounds like we don't like anything that's really our right now.
But that clearly places us in the minority of opinions if the shit is wildly popular and making a lotta money.
We gotta get out of this main character bias like we are the deciding and determining opinion on what's great.
We are not the authority here.... Even if we wanna be
