Jamaican culture is global and it's Jamaican it's not getting stolen because it's that powerful it's globally recognised and identified. Tom hanks son isn't walking around stealing Jamaican culture he's walking around looking like a clown and everyone GLOBALLY recognises the culture and identity he's trying to be apart of.

whats crazy is i ran into quite a few jamaican/west indian restaurants ran by white people. same with "soul food"

but i never ran into lets say an israeli restaurant owned by a black person.

You do realize that a lot of white people when they visit places they cloak themselves in native garb and hairstyles, etc. but before they get on that plane or boat to go back to their white countries they take all that shit off and never wear those clothes or hairstyles in their white countries.

It's a reason for that and it ain't cause they love and/or respect that black culture. Black peoples culture and lifestyles was all just fun and games for them for that moment.

IMO you have to look beyond just how Jamaicans and Caribbean people view their culture.

For example if Texas was allowed to continue to use those textbooks that said slaves were "migrant workers" after a few generations. We'd have generations of people who would wholeheartedly believe that.

We would have real live debates, discussions and fights about the true nature of slavery.

I think it would be very short-sighted for you to think that couldn't happen to Jamaican culture just because it's known around the world.

but i do think its kinda fucked up that in the UK they know about our abuses and th names of those done wrong and yet we dont acknowledge theirs at the same rate and hardly know of any names. maybe im wrong on that. but i just dont see it.

while i understand we all have homegrown issues....that dont mean it should only go one way and that we shouldnt support each other.

there are many things we need to fix and it begins with at the least acknowledging each other on a level of respect.

It's a problem with black immigrants. FBA folks fought for them to even be over here enjoying what they are enjoying, I know it's better than what they were getting back in their home land, if it wasn't, then their mama or daddy, wouldn't have gotten a VISA or passport to come over here to escape their home land.
